Today we honor the memory of Billy G. West, Caltrans Bay Area-District 4 Equipment Operator. On August 3, 1983, Mr. West was working next to his vehicle when a trough from a passing cement truck became unlatched striking Mr. West and resulting in fatal injuries. 🧡

A semitruck fire is affecting traffic in Downtown Sacramento! The fire is along eastbound U.S. 50, just east of the I-5 interchange near 10th Street. The CHP is closing the transition ramps to EB U.S. 50 from I-5 north and south. There is no estimated time to reopen. Please avoid the area and allow emergency crews to respond. We extend our heartfelt appreciation to everyone for their incredible patience this past weekend. Your understanding and cooperation have been invaluable.

We understand that these closures can be inconvenient, but we assure you that once the project is completed, it will result in a much smoother driving experience for all motorists. We are dedicated to improving the infrastructure for your benefit.

We have two more weekend closures scheduled on EB I-80 near Hercules. These closures will take place on the weekends of August 4th and August 18th. Additionally, there will be a closure on WB I-80 near Hercules during the Labor Day weekend, starting on Thursday, August 31st and ending on Tuesday, September 5th.

: A full highway closure of Niles Canyon Road (SR-84) from Palomares Road in Fremont to Main Street in Sunol will begin 8 p.m. Friday, July 14 - 5 a.m. Monday, July 17, 2023, for work on the Alameda Creek Bridge.
During this closure, crews will work around the clock to connect the existing roadway with the new roadway leading to the new Alameda Creek Bridge. The work includes grinding the pavement, laying down hot mix asphalt and rubberized asphalt paving, and striping the roadway.

They're teaming up with local, regional, and state fire marshals to prioritize areas for vegetation control projects. The goal? To minimize the risk of rapid fire spread. 🙌

Along the highways in Marin County and Contra Costa County, Caltrans is doing some important tasks. They're mowing, getting rid of low-hanging trees, and thinning out dense tree stands. 🌳✂️

US-101/Lombard Street between Van Ness Avenue to Richardson Avenue/Chestnut Street is now 25 miles-per-hour (MPH). This is a change from the old speed limit which was 30 MPH. The new 25 mph speed limit signs are now posted with the new speed limit in effect.

There's a new on-ramp from Yerba Buena Island to access the Bay Bridge into San Francisco:

• To travel westbound toward San Francisco via the Bay Bridge: As you are traveling South on Treasure Island Road (toward the Bay Bridge) you will need to TURN LEFT at Macalla Road. You will proceed on Macalla Road then turn LEFT onto I-80 Westbound Ramps on the east side of YBI.
• In conjunction with the closure of the westbound on-ramp, the northbound lanes of Treasure Island Road (on YBI) will be closed to traffic. Motorists wishing to access the eastbound on-ramp to the Bay Bridge will continue to use southbound Treasure Island Road (on YBI).
• As noticed previously on June 17, 2023, the SFMTA’s 25 Treasure Island bus line will see longer travel times due to this construction, which will affect frequencies. The line will run every 20 minutes on weekdays and every 30 minutes on weekends. For more information, visit SFMTA.com/25.

Please also note that:
These changes in traffic patterns are in addition to the closure of the eastbound off-ramp from the lower level of the Bay Bridge which occurred on Thursday, June 22, 2023. Combined, these changes are part of the transportation infrastructure on YBI and TI that will benefit residents, businesses and visitors to this area.
