🚦 Pedestrian safety improvements are now active at 17th Ave & El Camino Real.

As of June 1, the traffic signal has been updated with a new exclusive east-west pedestrian phase. The City of San Mateo has partnered with Caltrans to implement these changes.

The updated signal timing will include an exclusive east-west pedestrian phase. This fully separates pedestrian crossings from vehicle movements during the walk cycle and reduces the likelihood of serious collisions.

Drivers: please expect longer wait times, especially southbound on El Camino Real and westbound on 17th Avenue.

Thank you for your patience as we prioritize safety. We believe your safety is worth the time.
