SOS TO OAKLAND ARCHITECTS/PLANNERS/DESIGNERS:
The Friends of the Oakland Public Library board -- the official nonprofit fundraising arm of the Oakland Public Library -- has a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to move our used bookstore, the Bookmark, from its cramped (but beloved) downtown space to a new location a few blocks away in Old Oakland. This is great, but the runway is short, and we're a mostly-volunteer organization pouring all our effort into creating a welcoming new retail space.
This is where you may be able to help. The floor plan for the bookstore will be simple, but we need help from a professional to advise us on the layout. Our goal is to create and safe and inclusive space for store patrons and our volunteer staff.
Skills required: Ability to create interior design plans that comply with ADA and City of Oakland requirements. Knowledge of inclusive design practices. Experience with retail and/bookstores a plus. Time commitment: 20-25 hours in April for drafting an initial design and/or reviewing our draft plan. When needed: ASAP!
If you have the required skills OR you know someone who does, please DM me.
Since 1992, the Bookmark Bookstore has raised much-needed money for the OPL system by selling books donated by the community. You will be doing a great good deed for a vital, essential institution in Oakland!
Thank you, friends!
