Behind every great library program is someone who pours their heart into making it happen.
A little over a year ago, Alexandria The Great 𓂀 started volunteering at the West Oakland Branch, helping to take care of our community garden. With deep familial roots in West Oakland, she brought not only her time, but a genuine commitment to this neighborhood and the people who call it home.
After spotting our Charlie Cart, she had a vision for what would become A Taste of West. She attended countless planning meetings, earned her Food Handler's Certification, partnered with branch staff and community partners and turned that vision into reality.
For the past year, twice a month, she's planned recipes, prepped ingredients, and led cooking demonstrations that have made fresh, healthy food more accessible and approachable.
Under the umbrella of A Taste of West, she's helped organize community food giveaways, supported countless other branch programs, and somehow always shows up with a smile.
As President of WOLF, she continues to give her time, creativity, and energy to making the West Oakland Branch a place where community can truly grow.
As we celebrate one year of A Taste of West, we're also celebrating Alexandria The Great 𓂀. This program simply would not exist without her vision, dedication, and care, and our branch is stronger because of everything she brings to it.
