💜Thank you, Team D7!!! One of the greatest joys of my work was the fantastic team I worked alongside to effectuate change, advocate for/with our community, and magnify impact!

🗣️We represented over 65,000 residents, thousands of workers, and businesses in the largest geographic district. We authored and sponsored over 100 legislative measures, secured significant funding for critical initiatives, and created Oakland’s first citywide policy framework for equitable service delivery/response in each department. From day one to the very last day, we did this together and finished strong, prioritizing the people who entrusted us with this incredible opportunity!

🫂To my phenomenal District 7 Team (AKA Team Peace)—thank you for your dedication, resilience, and unwavering commitment to our community. You poured your hearts into our work 24/7 and my vision to move East Oakland Forward. Your passion shaped our foundation, built lasting partnerships, and secured deeper investments for our community. You showed up daily, working hard to deliver a more equitable Oakland for all of us. I love, honor, and am so grateful to you!

💙May God Bless you more! Wishing you all success on your journeys—remember, there is strength in numbers, and always lead with integrity, accountability, fearless faith in action, and the power of love!🥰💪🏾

🧥Thank you, Rita Forte, The Olive Street Agency for our lovely Team D7 jackets!

💜It was a joy to honor and celebrate the incredible dedication of our City of Oakland District 7 Neighborhood Council Chairperson volunteers. These leaders embody the resilience and commitment that make Oakland strong—working tirelessly to improve our neighborhoods, one block at a time—with love and care.

Neighborhood Councils are the backbone of grassroots governance, fostering collaboration between residents, city staff, and the Oakland Police Department to enhance public safety, quality of life, and civic engagement.

Thank you to our NC Chairs, Deputy City Administrator DeVries and Team, city staff, and community members for your unwavering efforts to make Deep East Oakland a place where every voice matters and every action counts.Join your NC and attend the 2025 meetings: https://www.oaklandca.gov/topics/neighborhood-councils

7️⃣ symbolizes completion, as does my time as Oakland District 7’s Councilmember.

💜I’m deeply grateful for everyone who helped close this chapter with love and celebration. Thank you, all!

🤗Much love to , and the Owners and Operators Group (Deacon Louis Knox and Bill Crotinger)for hosting an amazing community celebration to honor me and my father with presentations from our faith leaders, community partners, city leaders and elected officials!

Last month, we honored D7 in so many ways, including:

✨ Unveiling the commemorative street renaming of Hegenberger Road as Larry E. Reid Way & renaming the East Oakland Sports Center in honor of my father—the second longest-serving councilmember in Oakland’s 170+ year history.

✨ Celebrating our seven Neighborhood Council Chairpersons for their dedication, including a donation to each group.

✨ Serving 400+ seniors & single parents at our Annual Holiday Food and Resource Drive.

✨ Recognizing the East Oakland Senior Center’s Food Distribution Program Volunteers for their outstanding work feeding our elders for twenty years with a donation to the program.

💪🏾D7, we did it! Your love, support & commitment to progress shaped our legacy and work to move East Oakland forward. I couldn’t have done this without you.

🎊Wishing you a blessed, joyful & prosperous 2025! I love you!

UPDATE AS OF 10/29:

E’Mari has been FOUND safe!

🚨The California Highway Patrol issued an Ebony Alert on early Monday morning for a missing 12-year-old last seen in San Leandro.

E’Mari Hay was last seen around 8 p.m. Sunday in the area of 163rd Avenue and Helo Drive in San Leandro, the CHP said on social media. She was wearing a black shirt, red and white pajama pants, and pink Crocs.

Hay is described as black, 5 feet 7 inches tall, around 150 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes. Authorities believe she is on foot.

📞Anyone who has seen Hay should immediately call 911.

In May 2023, City Council unanimously adopted my resolution in support of California Senate Bill 673 (Bradford) which would establish an Ebony Alert.

In October 2023, SB 673 was signed into law!

SB 673 authorizes a law enforcement agency to request that an Ebony Alert be activated if that agency determines that it would be an effective tool in the investigation of a missing Black youth youth or young women between the ages of 12 – 25 years.

SB 673 encourages television, cable, satellite, and social media systems to cooperate with disseminating timely, accurate information to engage the public and the media on the information contained in an Ebony Alert.
