📚 Black History in Education: Honoring Our Past, Fighting for Our Future ✊🏾
Arturo Alfonso Schomburg spent his life proving that Black history is rich, powerful, and must be preserved. As a child, he was told Black people had no history—so he dedicated himself to collecting proof of Black intellect, culture, and resistance.
His vast collection of over 10,000 books, manuscripts, and artifacts was acquired by the New York Public Library (NYPL) in 1926, where he later became the curator of the Division of Negro Literature, History, and Prints. His work laid the foundation for the Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture, now home to over 10 million items on the African diaspora.
His legacy is a reminder that education is liberation and that our history must be protected and told by us. This , we honor Schomburg’s fight for truth and continue the work of uplifting Black stories.
