Oakland Tribune Building The iconic 22-story tower is the most recognizable building in Oakland, featuring the neon sign and clock tower, is a national historical building.

The Oakland Tribune Building is centrally located at the heart of downtown Oakland, California, just steps away from City Hall, and the 12th Street Oakland City Center Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) underground train station, which allows for easy access to downtown San Francisco as well as the entire Bay Area. s to downtown San Francisco (Financial District & Union Square). The Tribune Tower was bought by CallSocket, a call center business, in December 2011 for $8 million after it went into foreclosure. CallSocket, controlled by an entrepreneur named Tom Henderson, is conducting $3-4 million in renovations and opened the ground floor restaurant, the Tribune Tavern.

Many past and present journalists for the Oakland Tribune newspaper gathered at the Tribune Tavern today to mark the end of an era. After nearly 150 years, the paper is being combined by its owners, the Bay Area News Group, into the new East Bay Times. Tribune Tavern and Tribune Tower building owner Tom Henderson (pictured standing far left next to Dave Newhouse, a former Tribune sportswriter and columnist turned author) welcomed the group for tours and paid tribute to the paper's rich history.
