This I’m excited that my friend and comrade is sharing her new book with the world! Though Oakland’s book event is sold out. you can order your copy now. Thanks, Vanessa, for including me in your book and making visible so many examples of women of color leadership. Let’s make !

・・・
It’s time to tell the truth about women of color and social justice in the United States.

Women of color leaders, especially Black women, have spearheaded many of the biggest social justice wins of our time.

Yet, too often for them, the game is rigged. How much more could humanity be winning if we unrigged it?

Unrig the Game: What Women of Color Can Teach Everyone About Winning, coming from 3.4.25, draws on interviews with 45 of the most powerful women of color movement leaders of our time, as well as my own experience as a leader, organizer, and funder.

For effective women of color leaders and everyone who supports them, this is a playbook for leaning from their strategic brilliance and unrigging the game so we can all win.

Statement from Alameda County Supervisor Nikki Fortunato Bas Following Yesterday’s Inauguration

“I took an oath of office as Alameda County’s District 5 supervisor to support the state and federal Constitutions and to faithfully discharge my duties.  My north star in what is expected to be a tumultuous four years under President Trump’s administration is to uphold our collective vision of a welcoming Alameda County that prioritizes community, equity and opportunity for all of us.

The new administration has already begun announcing plans for hard-line immigration policies, including the end of birthright citizenship, and for rolling back protections for transgender people.

As the County’s safety net, we will lead with our values to protect all our communities and ensure their safety and inclusion as they go to school, seek healthcare and go about their daily routines, and ensure their due process. At our January 28 Board meeting, I will seek Board approval for the creation of an Ad-Hoc Committee to coordinate a proactive response to protect, support and lift up communities who are threatened by federal policies and budgets. This committee will build off our work under the last Trump Administration.

More than ever, we must join together to fight for our values.  With government and communities working together, we are a living example of a county that cares for the most vulnerable among us.”
