🧧🐍🥟Oakland Chinatown was so alive last weekend for the 3rd Annual Oakland Chinatown Lunar New Year Parade! Thank you @chinatownoakland and sponsors for organizing another successful event that brought together our community and displayed the potential of our town with a spectacular parade, amazing performances, delicious food, and much more! It was a blast to see so many friends, neighbors, and colleagues including @apen4ej. #LunarNewYear #YearoftheSnake
Dear Oaklanders, thank you for the honor of being your Mayor. I’m grateful for the opportunity to have served on this role, I’d like to express my immense gratitude to the Mayor’s staff and our entire team at the City of Oakland. Let’s continue to build on our progress on public safety, housing, and equitable services. As I get ready for my first day as your County Supervisor for District 5, I am filled with gratitude and wanted to share a bit about the work we’ve been up to in this short and critical tenure as your Mayor.

As we reach the end of 2024, we acknowledge the incredible work of the Ceasefire partnership to save lives. Their hard work and collaboration has led to a 5-year low in both homicides and shootings, including a 45-day stretch late this year without a single murder on our streets.
Oakland’s Ceasefire partners are once again making Oakland a national model for reducing gun violence.
Dear Oakland, this past Wednesday, I was sworn in as Oakland’s Interim Mayor. I am grateful to Mayor Sheng Thao for her service to our City and unwavering commitment to advancing priorities that best meet the needs of our residents. I am proud of the work we’ve accomplished over these past two years and feel immensely grateful for the entirety of Mayor Thao’s career in public service. In this moment of transition for Oakland, I feel hopeful for our city in no small way thanks to the commitment, dedication and hard work of every public servant in our city. Thank you. Love Life.
Dear community, yesterday was my last official day as Oakland Council president and council member for District 2. We passed a very difficult and balanced budget and as part of my parting words, I shared with our Council my priorities for the D2 interim Councilmember and specifically that I believe outgoing Councilmember At Large Rebecca Kaplan is uniquely qualified to jump in and immediately help serve our D2 constituents, keep projects moving forward and help lead the City’s biennial budget process.
It has been my honor to serve as Oakland City Council President over the past 4 years, and to serve the diverse residents of District 2 as City Councilmember for the past 6 years. I’m proud of the community-centered policies we have passed and the neighborhood level improvements we have won and continue to push forward. Many of you have partnered with my office to accomplish so much. I am proud and I thank each and everyone of you for that.
Friday’s annual Shellmound to Shellmound Prayer Walk brought together hundreds of community members to honor the Indigenous struggle for land rematriation and return and to uplift the legacy of beloved warrior Wounded Knee DeOCampo and those who came before us. We walked from the West Berkeley Shellmound - that was rematriated earlier this year to the Sogorea Te’ Land Trust and the Villages of Lisjan Nation - to the Emeryville Shellmound - once one of the largest standing 60 feet tall.
Learn our history, honor our ancestors, protect our future. @sogoreatelandtrust @savetheshellmounds @villages_of_lisjan

Thrilled to celebrate a milestone for affordable housing in Chinatown! 🏠With support from EBALDC, Asian Health Services, APEN, and community advocates, we're turning public land into housing for seniors, families, and formerly homeless residents near the Lake Merritt BART.
This project reflects our vision of *public dollars for public good* with partnership among the City of Oakland, State of California and BART. The project also helps repair the impact of past infrastructure on low-income communities of color. Together, we're building a better future for Oakland and the East Bay! 🚊✨ #AffordableHousing #PublicGood #Chinatown

I was truly moved to hear these words from my former Chief of Staff about how we got things done in Oakland City Hall. Grateful for the teamwork and dedication that made it all possible! #Leadership
