To Mills College and Fem Dems community
The events of the past week have left us shocked and stunned. Neo-N*azism, White Supremacy, homophobia, Islamophobia -any type of discrimination against anyone is wrong and unjust in every sense of the word. These are tough times. Yet, through these tough times we have to remain strong and stand together.
We have been in discussion over the meaning of allyship in political leadership this month. The hate-inspired rallies and violence this past year show that we need allyship now more than ever. And not just in politics. In every part of our everyday life. We need to come together in order to stop the hate and violence. Through educating ourselves and others about the injustices that are happening. Through organizing and supporting community gatherings that bring us together. Through being present and checking in with our communities affected.
As Mills College Feminist Democrats, one of our goals is to help create spaces that foster community. As we go on this year as student leaders, let us keep our minds and hearts open. We should reach out to those in need and continue to advocate for just policies as well as the abolishment of discriminating policies.
To the communities affected by Charlottesville and all hate-inspired actions/violence, we see you, we stand with you.
Sincerely,
Mills College Feminist Democrats
