Have you met Ms. Gullikson? If your child has ever stepped foot in JM's magical library, they most certainly know who she is!
Ms. Gullikson, Joaquin Miller's amazing librarian, has worked at JM for close to 20 years, making the library a welcoming space for all. She has built an incredible collection for our students, with over 10,000 items including up to date books, graphic novels, popular series, magazines, as well as access to the district's large online collection, Sora. Each classroom visits the library once a week where all grades enjoy a read-aloud followed by book selection. Ms. Gullikson helps students find books to spark or continue their love for reading, provides research project assistance, and supports our staff with timely books that tie into the curriculum and social emotional learning goals.
Ms. Gullikson also oversees these events, which are a HUGE part of what makes JM so special for our students and community:
- Annual Book Fair fundraiser,
- Author / storyteller visits, and
- The annual MLK Oratorical festival.
The PTA also pays for Ms. Ahn, our library assistant, who works 5 hours a week cataloging, repairing, and taking inventory - basically keeping the collection in good shape for the students. Ms. Ahn and Ms. Gullikson make a great team!
In order to keep Ms. Gullikson, Ms. Ahn and JM's fabulous library and related programming, the PTA needs your participation in the Kids Come First Fundraiser which ENDS THIS WEEK on October 1! This campaign typically raises more than $50,000. We are currently significantly behind our $50,000 goal and we need your contribution right away. The PTA's suggested contribution amount for this fundraiser is $500 per child but any contribution amount is valued and appreciated.
