Bay Area Urban Debate League (BAUDL)

Bay Area Urban Debate League (BAUDL) We are dedicated to expanding opportunities for Bay youth to become articulate, informed leaders in their schools and communities. The Bay Area Urban Debate League (BAUDL) is part of a nationwide movement that seeks to establish and maintain competitive debate teams in under-resourced public high schools.
(23)

The BAUDL has partnered with school districts in San Francisco and Oakland so that the young people of the Bay Area can participate in
rigorous, exciting competition and become articulate and informed leaders in their schools and communities. With the help of dozens of volunteers and
sponsors, the league helps students from all backgrounds and all levels of academic
achievement develop into trained, powerful advocates and skilled critical thinkers, ready to graduate from high school and college and take
on the world.

On April 29, BAUDL welcomes our 2021 Hero Award recipient and Keynote Speaker: Reverend Wanda Johnson, CEO and founder of the Oscar Grant Foundation. Reverend Johnson is a tireless advocate for healing the broken relationships between many urban communities and law enforcement, helping those around her turn pain into purpose. She’s the perfect person to cap off BAUDL’s debate focus this year: criminal justice reform. Don’t miss her talk!

This summer, BAUDL is proud to announce we have entered a strategic alliance with the Los Angeles Metro Debate League and Silicon Valley Urban Debate League to form the California Alliance of Urban Debate Leagues. This cooperative has come together to host our second fully online Summer Debate Camp!

Seminars, lectures, and labs will be combined between our leagues giving students the opportunity to work with and compete against peers from all over the state.

Camp is July 26th to July 31 for high school and July 27th to July 31st for middle school. We are now accepting registrants, please continue reading below for details.

Students grade 6-12th are welcome to attend!
BAUDL Julia Burke Debate Inst. is "West Coast Champs Debate Institute"

To reflect the cooperative effort of this year's camp, the JBDI will be renamed to "West Coast Champs Debate Institute." Camp is open to any student who has joined or is interested in joining the debate team at a participating league's school. We are adapting our schedule and style to account for the unavoidable changes and interruptions that students will face between now and the end of camp. Students should not feel discouraged from attending where they can, even if they cannot be connected for all of the events offered.

We have been working hard to produce a schedule that balances rigor, competition, but also the health and mental well-being of your students. We understand that our normal 10 hour a day camp schedule simply will not translate to online, and have distilled the schedule to focus on the most fundamental lessons necessary to be competitive in this new world of online debating. So far, we've created a daily schedule of events that includes: lectures, labs, and independent learning for debaters in attendance. If you have ideas for what might make camp more engaging or fun, we are flexible and open to any and all suggestions.

All students who plan to participate need to fill out this registration form:

I was wondering whether any of the members of this club held any political debates recently.
