Thank you to our debaters from Oakland Tech High School, Emery High School, and Kipp King Collegiate, who stepped up to the challenge to take their skills further. We are proud of you and are excited to support your debate careers.
Thank you to our donors. With your money, we could provide our youth with travel, meals, and coaching support to succeed. By removing barriers, Bay Area Youth can compete at National Competitions at no expense to their families. Thank you for helping to raise the money needed to cover their experiences.
Thank you to Deven. Seeing your work in action in hosting this lovely event was amazing. Thank you for waiving the registration fees for our Urban Debate League youth to take their swing at the competition.

Since 2007, BAUDL has introduced the excitement of competitive debate to thousands of students in underresourced urban high schools and junior high schools in San Francisco, Oakland, Emeryville, and Richmond. Now, we're expanding to schools in Marin, and we wanted to celebrate! Our approach to debate education trains students to research evidence, think critically, and advocate passionately for their current and future ideas.
From 2020 to 2023, BAUDL graduated 100% of its High School seniors. Kathya C., recipient of a full-ride scholarship to Boston University, shares, “BAUDL gave me many tools necessary to succeed that I would not have received otherwise. It taught me to defend my community with words, showed me the inside and outs of how our country runs, and gave me the confidence I needed to believe in myself.”
Join us for our first celebration and fundraiser in Marin! As we continue to build the leadership of young people, particularly young people of color, and charter pathways for youth to become leaders in our communities.

BAUDL Staff and youth joined the offices of Carr Workplaces for lunch and a presentation about how we are making competitive debate education available to Bay Area public schools so that all students can reach their full potential as engaged learners, critical thinkers, and capable civic advocates.
BAUDL Youth were also given a special one-on-one conversation with Bahram Seyedin-Noor, CEO AND FOUNDER, of Alto Litigation. BAUDL Youth learned how the skills they practice in debate rounds can one day be used in professional law careers.
Thank you, Carr Workplaces(Carr Workplaces) & Alto Litigation (Alto Litigation), for hosting a fundraiser and opening your space to the Bay Area Urban Debate League.
Thank you to the debaters from Skyline High School, McClymonds High School, and June Jordan School for Equity, who joined us.

This summer, the Bay Area Urban Debate League provided scholarships for seven debaters to attend the California National Debate Institute! This is an extraordinary opportunity for our youth. The CNDI brings together some of the brightest and hardest-working high school coaches, college coaches, and current college debaters to provide students with a variety of educational perspectives.
We could only provide the scholarships for our youth to attend with the support of our donors. Thank you!
Congratulations to our scholarship recipients. We look forward to supporting you in the national competition this season.

Flowing is a type of note-taking debaters use to track the arguments in a round. A big part of being a successful debater is being able to listen to all arguments being made. Tomorrow is the big camp scrimmage!
You can still join us for camp too. Camp is free! Breakfast & lunch are provided.

This summer, the Bay Area Urban Debate League (BAUDL) is proud to announce we will be returning to IN PERSON DEBATE CAMP! This summer, the Julia Burke Debate Institute will be held in person at Laney College at 900 Fallon St, Oakland, CA 94607!
Seminars, lectures, and labs will are held, allowing students to work with and compete against peers.
High School Camp will be hosted IN PERSON from July 24th to July 28th. Middle School will be from July 25th to July 28th.
We are now accepting registrants; please continue reading below for details.
Camp is open to any student who has joined or is interested in joining the debate team at a participating league's school. We are adapting our schedule and style to account for the unavoidable changes and interruptions that students will face between now and the end of camp. Students should not feel discouraged from attending where they can, even if they cannot be connected to all the events offered.
We have been working hard to produce a schedule that balances rigor, competition, health, and mental well-being. So far, we've created a daily program of events that includes: lectures, labs, and independent learning for debaters in attendance if you have ideas for what might make camp more engaging or fun.
