We loved being part of the Positive Futures Fair last month!

Our Youth Empowerment Services (YES) team connected with incredible community partners and shared how we support young people through trauma-informed, culturally aware, and strengths-based services.

From case management to crisis intervention and family counseling, we’re here to walk alongside youth and families toward stability and success.

We’d like to share our sincere gratitude for Matson, a longstanding partner that has given generously to EBAC over the past 11 years.

Thanks to the ongoing support of Matson and other dedicated partners, our Family Resource Centers continue to work alongside families and communities to remove barriers to health, wellness, and safety.

Every day, our six Family Resource Centers offer convenient and helpful places for families to access vital public services important to family health and wellness. Our multilingual and multicultural staff ensure all families have the resources they need so their children can thrive.

Matson, we’re truly grateful for your steadfast support. From all of us at EBAC, we thank you!

When students return years later to work alongside you, you know the impact was real.

ā€œI’ve been blessed in 15 years of working in the expanded learning community to hire 8 of my former students. I work at an elementary school, so the impact that we make is great enough for them to come back—10, 15 years later—and still want to come and contribute what they got from us… that impact is huge. It lasts for the rest of your life when it’s done right.ā€

10-year-old afterschool student Grace was one of the many brave voices to speak out at the recent OUSD board meetings in support of afterschool programs. We’re so proud of Grace and everyone who helped ensure Oakland’s afterschool programs are here to stay.

ā€œHello, my name is Grace, and I am ten years old and have been going to aftercare since TK. My brother used to go here and my little sister goes there. And there are a lot of other wonderful people who go there, and I have learned so much.

Aftercare has encouraged me to play sports and make more friends and to push more in academics and stay in school. Some people think of the staff as teachers, but I think of them as friends and family.

Aftercare and EBAC have been so helpful to me and my parents. If you take away aftercare, that is like taking away all my friends. So thank you so much aftercare and EBAC, you teach me so much, and I would be so upset if anyone took away afterschool.ā€

A huge win for Oakland kids and families! After weeks of community outcry — with EBAC staff, partner organizations, parents, and students coming together and speaking out — the OUSD Board voted last night to reverse its resolution, restoring millions of dollars for afterschool programs.

This win is a major victory and a testament to the power of community.

We are deeply grateful to everyone who gave up their time to be in this fight, raise their voices, and help save Oakland’s vital afterschool programs.

Urgent: Help us save vital afterschool programs!

The Oakland Unified School District Board passed a resolution that would significantly reduce afterschool funding by 50-80% across all Oakland Schools. If this resolution stands, it will have devastating outcomes for kids and families. We are calling on the Board to immediately rescind their decision.

We're very proud of our Afterschool Program team for mobilizing with community partners today on behalf of Oakland kids and families!

The EBAC team joined the rally and press conference ahead of the OUSD board meeting to share our concerns about the consequences of the passage of Resolution #2425-0084 and to call for the Board to immediately rescind their decision. Our primary focus is to ensure that kids and families can continue to access the vital programs that improve academic and social skills and keep kids safe in the out-of-school time.

Physical challenges and serious health struggles in friends and family can impact their mental health. Although we might not be able to change someone’s illness, we can change how they experience it. Take the time to share a meal, take a walk, or just listen—it can make a world of difference.

Our Story

Our Mission - East Bay Agency for Children improves the well-being of children, youth and families by reducing the impact of trauma and social inequities.

Our Vision- We are committed to building a comprehensive, place-based continuum of accessible, trauma informed and culturally relevant services that build resiliency, aid in recovery, and, where possible, prevent exposure to adverse childhood experiences. We seek to reduce barriers that contribute to disparities in wellness for socioeconomically disadvantaged and racially marginalized families and to create communities where all children and families have supports to reach their full potential.

Our Values

We believe in EQUITY, that all people should have access to services, supports and opportunities to be successful. We subscribe to the theory of ā€œtargeted universalismā€, whereby our strategies recognize and are responsive to the unique needs of marginalized children and families. We believe that a culturally and ethnically diverse staff with broad language capacity and roots in the communities we serve is critical to our success.
