Founded in 2006, Lotus Bloom operated in shared space and under the fiscal sponsorship with Oakland Ready to Learn. Today, Lotus Bloom is an independent 501(c)(3) in a new location, operating with an all-volunteer Board of Directors and small part-time staff. Our centers serve over 400 families per year by offering early childhood programs, playgroups, literacy activities, and art programs at four high-need neighborhoods throughout Oakland.

Lotus Bloom is grateful to partner with Oakland Unified School District's Kinder Readiness Program, as well as local family resource agencies, parents and caregivers to mend the safety net for many young children navigating Kindergarten during the pandemic. By providing playgroups for socialization and connecting families to resources and support, together we can work toward every child having a strong start in life!

Lotus Bloom (LB) is a grassroots family resource center that provides a welcoming space for low income, multicultural families with young children 0-5 years old to play, learn and grow together. Since our inception in 2006, LB has experienced exponential growth and is now a set of thriving community resource centers in the heart of Oakland serving over 1,000 families per year.
From the very beginning, Lotus Bloom has challenged itself to become a place in the community where families can uplift their cultural and linguistic diversity with appreciation and respect of their collective differences and commonalities. Lotus Bloom approaches working alongside families with the goal of maximizing every opportunity for interaction, enrichment, language development, and learning in a culturally competent context. This means that we look at the conditions our families face such as the neighborhood in which they live, their income, experiences of community violence or poverty and access to quality education. We consider these factors in order to cultivate informed and effective resource options from within and outside the community.
Lotus Bloom's Mission is to ensure that every caregiver of young children, particularly those facing financial and other barriers, has a support system connecting them to the health, social and learning opportunities that will ensure their child has a strong start in life.
