ASHAHUT DESIGNS
i've been thinking about tiny living solutions & emergency shelters since late 2017 while working on a "business" plan that stemmed from my cigarette butt recycling bin sculptures via the SBA program (details on FB page)... however, i never was comfortable with the idea of charging money for something that is an essential need and a right for all, so that made pursuing funding difficult.

after seeing the Israeli military parading around the body of Palestinian boy they murdered on nov 5th, 2023 inside the scoop of a bucket loader, i decided that i needed to design kid-sized bomb shelters/armored tents. i spent many very late nights exploring assembly/logistical strategies, researching materials, and ultimately deciding that recycled plastic pallets was the best choice for a base component due to their structural integrity, resistance to mold/fire, cost, ecological impact, and the fact that pretty much the whole world is set up to transport them already.

these are some of the designs i have come up with based on the standard 1200x1000mm pallet (48x40" for the non-metric minority). more than a product, i wanted to create a construction system, one that did not require any power tools for the frame assembly. 1st gen uses stainless cable ties.

a large part of why i pursued this path is the versatility of the concept, not only in terms of configurations, but of its possibilities in the hands of determined, creative, and resourceful people (i.e. the Palestinians)... it is essentially a blank canvas waiting for fresh ideas and a collaboration community, so i hope to be providing open-source design files eventually via ashamama.org, although even squeezing in time to post here is a struggle because there is so much work to be done.
