Bay Area LISC, one of 37 local LISC sites throughout the country, works together with residents and partners to forge resilient and inclusive communities of opportunity - helping create great places to live work, visit, do business and raise families. Bay Area LISC works to make neighborhood dreams a reality by working with cities, residents, nonprofit organizations, and key public and private par

A new affordable housing community is now open in North Richmond.

Legacy Court brings 43 new homes for low-income families, including units with supportive services for residents experiencing or at risk of homelessness.

Projects like this take years of coordination, partnership, and investment—and reflect what’s possible when local leadership and mission-driven capital come together.

Proud to support efforts that expand access to stable, affordable housing across the Bay Area.

What if some of the most promising sites for new housing are already owned by community institutions?

A new Guardian article explores how faith-based organizations are using underutilized land to build housing, part of a growing “Yes in God’s Backyard” movement.

Our Faith and Housing work supports this exact model, helping organizations navigate development, access capital, and move projects forward.

As the region continues to face a deep housing shortage, partnerships like these are an important piece of the solution.

What does equitable economic development look like in practice?

This Next City article points to a powerful answer: investing in community-rooted commercial corridors as hubs of culture, small business, and local identity.

At LISC Bay Area, we see the impact of this approach through our work supporting developers, small businesses, and corridor revitalization efforts across the region. Access to flexible, mission-driven capital remains critical to sustaining these ecosystems.

Proud to see our work reflected in LISC’s 2025 Annual Report.

Programs like Faith and Housing show what’s possible when community institutions are supported to turn underused land into affordable housing.

Meet Noni Session, executive director of West Oakland-based East Bay Permanent Real Estate Cooperative (EB PREC), a land and housing investment fund helping lead the revitalization of the historic 7th Street Corridor, a stretch from Wood St. on the west to Brush St. on the east.

With support from LISC Bay Area and Kaiser Permanente, EB PREC has led the multi-year initiative 7th Street Thrives to improve infrastructure, lease commercial space, center collective community action, and restore cultural ownership in the area.

The initiative kicked off with the acquisition of Esther's Orbit Room, a historic arts and music venue. EB PREC celebrated a major project milestone in December, starting a year-long construction phase to renovate Esther’s Orbit Room into a community-owned arts and business ecosystem that honors the space’s cultural legacy.

Our 2024 Impact Report is here!

Last year, we deepened our roots in community. From investing $100M and advancing 185 new homes for seniors to building community with our neighbors and partners on 7th Street through our annual Black Earth Day and Resident Block Party, every effort brought us closer to a more resilient and equitable Bay Area.

In Oakland, The Center for ArtEsteem is transforming how local youth connect with art and wellness. With support from a LISC capacity building collaboration with Meta they’re fundraising to renovate their space and bolstered their staffing to offer youth a place to learn, grow, and express themselves through visual arts.

As they lay the foundation for future growth, they’re setting an example of how investing in better systems and people can lead to long-term community impact.

Art isn’t just about creating, it’s about healing, and this organization is helping to heal and empower future generations.

At LISC, we’re proud to support organizations like this that are changing lives, one project at a time. Learn more here: https://www.lisc.org/our-stories/story/strengthening-core-how-lisc-and-meta-support-backbone-community-progress/

How about this for good news? LISC has been awarded $65M in New Market Tax Credits from the U.S. Treasury's Fund! This brings our NMTC investment in low-income communities—for everything from health clinics and child care to job creation and economic development—to nearly $1.3B over the past two decades.

The award will help us intensify the impact that our NMTC affiliate, Broadstreet, has had in places that have been overlooked and under-resourced for far too long. Stay tuned for what these resources will do! https://www.lisc.org/our-stories/story/lisc-awarded-65m-new-markets-tax-credits/
