The Garrett County Department of Public Utilities is advising McHenry water customers that there is a planned water outage scheduled for Tuesday, August 18th between the hours of 8am and 4pm.

Affected areas are expected to be Irwin Way, Green Jacket Court, and Lodestone Way.

A contractor is installing a new water connection, and service will be restored as soon as the work is completed. Please check cold water for discoloration before using.

UPDATE: Going east or west, the detour is onto Mosser to 219.

The Garrett County Department of Public Works – Roads Division hereby provides public notice that double wall culvert installation is planned for Monday, August 17, 2026, on Rock Lodge Road, weather and construction conditions permitting.

The section of roadway between Mosser Road and Limousine Ridge Road will be temporarily closed to traffic beginning 7 a.m. on this date and for 24 to 48 hours. If the project is delayed due to inclement weather, a revised date will be announced for the temporary closure.

UPDATE: The Garrett County Department of Public Utilities is advising customers on the Gorman water system that water leak repairs have been completed and water service restored. We recommend that you check cold water for discoloration before using. If you are still without water, please call or text our paging service at 240-442-1632.

The Garrett County Department of Public Utilities is advising customers on the Gorman water system that you will likely be without water service today due to a leak on the system.

Maintenance personnel are working on the issue, and service will be restored as soon as repairs are completed. We recommend that you check cold water for discoloration before using after service is restored.

The Garrett County Mountain Maryland Gateway to the West Heritage Area is now accepting applications for the FY27 mini-grants.

This fiscal year the program has received an additional $10,000.00 in grant money that can be used to help fund more heritage projects. The grant fund has increased from $25,000 to $35,000.

The Garrett County Maryland Affordable Housing Land Trust announced it has been awarded a $963,600 grant through the Maryland Ground Source Heat Pump Advantage Pilot Program (MD GAP).

The funding will fully integrate high-efficiency, sustainable Ground Source Heat Pumps (GSHPs) into all 73 planned homes at the Hemlock Grove Housing Project in Grantsville.
