Oakland Youth Aspire

Oakland Youth Aspire (formerly What Now America) is a free youth resource center open every Saturday, 12:30 to 5 PM.

Oakland Youth Aspire (OYA) enriches the lives of youth by creating a fun and welcoming environment that promotes a healthy lifestyle and fosters open communication, empathy, and the development of interpersonal skills. Vision:
Our vision is to help youth aspire to live healthy and productive lives, and develop fundamental skills to reach their fullest potential. We do this by following our core va

lues:
-Inclusion and Respect: We provide a safe place that is inclusive and welcoming to youth from all economic, cultural and social backgrounds. In this collaborative environment, youth, volunteers, and board members listen to, respect and value one another.

-Life Skills and Relationships: We utilize social emotional learning techniques with a focus on communication, empathy, and conflict resolution. We encourage nurturing relationships among board members, volunteers and the youth we serve. We believe that by supporting youth we are also strengthening families and community.

-Healthy Lifestyles: We believe in promoting healthy lifestyles and physical activity. We provide access to nutritious food with well-balanced meals and weekly grocery bag giveaways, and we teach youth how to prepare healthy meals in our teen-cooking program.

Curtavia Gill, We at OYA, are so very proud of you for all that you have accomplished and will for life. Thank you for spending your ENTIRE summer RUNNING our program as our Youth Mentor. Our beloved volunteer passed away last night tragically leaving behind his wife, and three teenage daughters. Udi was a pillar at our program radiating positive energy in an ever soothing way. Please help the family if you are able to donate during such difficult times ❤️

On Saturday OYA took our youth to the movies to see Coco. We were able to discuss family families related to the movie, order pizza, and hand out Christmas gifts after. 2017 has been an amazing year for Oakland Youth Aspire! We hope that this next year is just as great. Happy Holidays everyone!

Our Annual Thanksgiving was so much fun! Thank you to all the volunteers for making it so successful. Take a look at the highlights from today!

Last weekend was our Annual Back 2 School Event. We gave over 200 backpacks with supplies to families in the Oakland community. Thank you to all who donated to make this event a success!!!

What an amazing holiday lunch that was made possible by the generous donation by #Grifols. We had 80 students, volunteers and parents join us today despite the rain. #urbanplay had an amazing program for the many students indoors. This day couldn't have happened without the help of our current volunteers, past volunteers and generous donations. Special thanks to #Pepsi for donating a pallet of juice and water to our students!!!
