Join me in thanking our dedicated hard working teachers for all that they do!
We ❤️ our teachers, they are amazing!!!

Our teachers are amazing. They're dedicated, creative, caring and incredibly hard-working. And that's during a regular school year. But in the midst of a pandemic? They take things to an entirely new level.

When our schools closed to in-person instruction, our teachers immediately rose to the challenge of the new distance learning landscape. They created a whole new plan for how students would continue learning and thought about ways to keep students and families engaged in the school community. They attended webinars to learn new ways to connect, they flexed their technology muscles to utilize new software, they updated lesson plans, they personally reached out to families, and so much more.

Please take some time to appreciate our educators this coming week by sending an email, a card or posting on social media using the #ThankATeacher hashtag!

Global Family Elementary School's Principal has created a GoFundMe page because the community desperately needs support, especially now that three parents have tested positive for Covid-19. Two of them are family breadwinners, and they are unable to work. Please help in any way you can, and share the campaign far and wide. #iamOUSD

OUSD is asking all families to do the 2020 Census to let the federal government know how many people we have in our District, our city and our region so that we receive the proper amount of resources and representation in Congress. It's important to know that you will not be asked any questions about immigration status. You can do it by filling out the form you received and mailing it back, calling in to do it by phone, and doing it online.

Celebrate Black History 365!

The Oakland Community School was a Black Panther-run liberation school that operated in #Oakland from 1973 to 1982.
The alternative school grew out of No. 5 in the Black Panther Party’s Ten Point Program, which called for educating black and poor people about their “true history” in the United States. Yet the mission was broader than indoctrinating the next generation into the Black Panther ideology, historians say. “The real focus was to teach children to be critical thinkers and problem solvers. To think of ways to make their community better.” #BlackHistoryMonth

Our support is needed following the tragic loss of a mother and parent leader Miesha Singleton due to a reckless driver. Let’s rally behind this beautiful family to fundraise and demand traffic safety improvements and enforcement on 98th Avenue! We have lost too many precious lives around school traffic. Together we can do better.

Have a wonderful holiday weekend! Remember the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr!

A lesson on lawmaking took Oakland Tech students on a four-year drive that in 1981 made Jan. 15 a state holiday to honor Martin Luther King, Jr. Today's students put on a play to tell their story.

So proud of our 4th grade teacher Ms. Rivas and her work with our student artist!!!

We want to highlight the amazing work being done by Oakland teachers! Morelia Rivas, a 4th grade teacher at Manzanita Seed, worked with students and parents to create a Dias De Las Muertes altar dedicated to Central American asylum seekers who have lost their lives in the past year and a half trying to reach US. The project was part the Oakland Museum of California's 25th anniversary celebration of days of the dead. 🌺💀🌺 #LatinxHistoryMonth #CultureIsLife

Hi all- Can anyone tell me what time the strings performance is this coming Friday. I don't see it anywhere here and we have lost the flyer!
Come and check out Pinocchio for free at John Hinkel Park in Berkeley. It's a great show for everyone in the family for the next 2 weekends at 4 pm. Here's a review from the San Jose Mercury News.
