🌍 Meet John Montgomery, a new 5th-grade teacher at EnCompass Academy Elementary, who made a career switch from software engineering to education!
John Montgomery has spent 15 years as a software engineer, but his true passion lies in teaching and mentoring. Inspired by his experience coaching his son’s soccer team, John decided to switch careers and focus on education. “I have a 9-year-old son, I’ve been coaching his soccer team for the last four years, and interacting with all the kids on the team and loving teaching and inspiring them to be good, have good character and good sportsmanship… I want to do that as a career, as opposed to doing it a couple days a week.”
John’s diverse experiences living in different countries and communities have shaped his approach to teaching. “I appreciate the diversity, and like I said, I speak Spanish. And the school where I’m going there are a lot of families and parents who speak Spanish, and some students, too… I’ve lived in different countries, and lived in many different communities… I love people, basically, and software engineering, even though I did it, I never really enjoyed it. 15 years. And I’m really excited about interacting with people. I know there will be challenges, and I’ll have good days and bad days, but I’m really excited about it.”
