🐾 Dog Owners, Respect Your Dog's Boundaries! 🐕

Just like us, dogs have opinions and moods. Some dogs love being around kids, while others prefer their space. Sometimes they’re in the mood for affection, and sometimes they need a break.

It’s important to follow the Pat, Pet, Pause method: ask permission, pet gently, and then pause to see if your dog wants more. This simple practice helps ensure both you and your dog have enjoyable interactions! 🐶💙

🐾 **Stay Safe Around Dogs You Know!** 🐕

Respect your dog’s body, feelings, space, and stuff! 🛑

✅ Give them space when they’re resting or eating—don’t interrupt.
✅ Pay attention to their body language. If they’re showing signs of discomfort (like growling or stiffening), it’s time to back off.
✅ Always ask permission before touching a dog’s toys or bed, and remember, not every dog loves being petted all the time.

Respect goes both ways—keeping these boundaries helps build trust and keeps everyone safe! 💙

How can you tell when a dog is feeling calm, relaxed, or shut down? 🐶💤

A calm dog is typically relaxed, with soft eyes, a wagging tail, and a body that feels loose and comfortable. These dogs enjoy interaction and may lean in for more petting or even roll over to show their belly, indicating trust and comfort.

On the other hand, a shut-down dog may appear withdrawn or disengaged. They may avoid eye contact, tuck their tail, or even freeze in place. This can be a sign of fear, stress, or an overwhelming situation. It’s crucial to respect a dog’s boundaries—if they’re giving off these signals, allow them space to relax and recover.

Teach children to recognize these behaviors and respect when a dog needs a break. Giving dogs their space ensures everyone stays safe and happy.

We love adoption updates!

"Everything has been great so far through these 3 days. We are absolutely loving him and have not had a single issue whatsoever. I attached a few pictures of the goof. He is the sweetest thing ever. We gave him a bath with no issues then got him quite a few things like bedding and the different dog supplies as well as a clicker and treats for training but I do not want to push too much onto him too soon. So far so good."

What is your dog trying to tell you? 🐾

Dogs communicate with us every day, and by learning their body language, we can understand what they’re feeling. Just like humans, dogs experience stress and anxiety. They can’t directly tell us when they’re uncomfortable, but they express it through signals like posture, eye contact, tail height, and movement.

Signs such as a stiff body, direct stare, or a raised tail can indicate discomfort or agitation, while a dog that’s yawning, lip licking, or turning its head might be stressed. Recognizing these signals helps prevent uncomfortable situations, especially when interacting with children.

As adults, it’s important to teach children to respect a dog’s space and body. Always pay attention to a dog’s behavior and step in if necessary.

Harley is a resilient, affectionate, and energetic young pup looking for a forever home where he can continue to thrive. Rescued from a difficult past, this 1.5-year-old boy has blossomed into a confident and loving companion, thanks to time, patience, and care from his foster. His foster family is no longer able to keep him due to their personal schedule so we are trying to help him stay out of the shelter for a second time.

Harley is full of personality—he greets you with a big stretch, loves to sunbathe, and enjoys playtime. Whether it's a run, a walk, or a trip to the dog park, he’s always up for an adventure. He’s treat-motivated and a quick learner, already mastering some commands. While he can be vocal and takes his role as a guardian seriously, he’s also a big cuddler who will happily sleep by your feet.

Harley is house-trained and does well with other dogs, though he may thrive best as the only pet in the home. He plays with enthusiasm and still has some learning to do, but with a committed family, he will continue to grow into an incredible companion.

If you're looking for a devoted and fun-loving dog who will be your biggest fan, Harley is ready to fill your home with love and loyalty. Open your heart to Harley—you won’t regret it!

🚨 BIG BOY ALERT! 🚨 Meet Valentino, our 122-pound overgrown baby who gallumphs around the yard like a joyful goofball, always with a toy in tow.

This lovable lunk is all heart (and maybe a little too much enthusiasm). Like many young pups, he’s still learning his manners—because let’s be real, you don’t want 122 pounds of love jumping up for hugs. But don’t worry—Valentino is treat-motivated and already knows how to sit, so training him will be a fun and rewarding experience.

He’s got high energy but no aggression or anxiety—just pure excitement for life. He’d thrive with an active family or couple who can keep up with his playful spirit. Maybe not the best fit for small kiddos, though—he might accidentally knock them over in his excitement.

Think you can keep up with Valentino’s big heart and bigger paws? Apply now to make him your new best friend: www.TriCityAnimalShelter.org/Adopt
