81st Avenue Community Library The 81st Avenue Library opened on January 29th, 2011.

Located on the site of ACORN Woodland and EnCompass Academy elementary schools, the 81st Avenue Library serves as a joint public/school library.

Join us at the library for a conversation with Yasir, owner of Mohka House in Oakland’s Dimond district. Learn about the history and culture of Yemeni coffee and tea, and the story behind his café.
Enjoy authentic Yemeni coffee, tea, and pastries.
Available on a first come, first served basis.

and are hosting Baba & Me: Literacy is MORE Than Reading, and it is free, it is fun, and your whole family is welcome.

Arts & crafts, storytelling through movement and play, and a reading circle led by fathers. You will leave with real ideas to keep creativity and literacy going all week long.

If you have not been to the 81st Ave. Branch yet — this is your sign. Fathers, this space was built with you in mind. But ALL families are welcome, so bring the little ones and come build with us.

Starting at 12pm at the 81st Ave Branch Library

What We'll Do:
Storytime that’s fun and interactive.
Arts and Crafts with your child (draw + tell stories together).
Movement-based literacy games around the library.
Take-home ideas to keep reading going at home.

Why Baba & Me Matters:
Because kids learn language through connection fathers participating in the kids literacy journey matters! This space supports bonding, confidence, and early literacy routines families can use every day.

Le invitamos a participar en un grupo de tejido de 6 semanas, guiado por tejedoras expertas de Union Maya. Aprenda los fundamentos del tejido tradicional, observe técnicas ancestrales y comparta un espacio de aprendizaje comunitario.

Join us for a 6-week weaving group led by expert weavers from Union Maya. Participants will learn the basics of traditional weaving, observe ancestral techniques, and share a learning space rooted in culture and community.

This project was made possible with the support from California Humanities, a non-profit partner of the National Endowment for the Humanities. Visit www.calhum.org.
