A Sista’s Touch is a tax-exempt (501c3) nonprofit public benefit corporation formed in the State of California in January 2017 to serve the Oakland and greater Bay Area communities. The mission of A Sista’s Touch is to nurture and acknowledge the positive personal and professional influences of African American women of all generations in the community; with a primary focus on our teen and adolescent girls. The aim of A Sista’s Touch is three fold: Edify, Elevate, and Celebrate Excellence. Our platform is to provide fundamental resources to Edify in areas of new interests, to offer necessary support to Elevate in pursued interests, and to cultivate communal success by Celebrating Excellence.

Mission: The mission of A Sista’s Touch is to acknowledge and nurture the positive influences of Sista’s of all ages in our communities for their personal and professional successes.

‘A Battle for the Souls of Black Girls’

“Black girls are viewed by educators as more suspicious, mature, provocative and aggressive than their white peers”, said Rebecca Epstein.

This is why it is so important that we teach our young queens the skills needed to navigate this system while elevating their voice without feeling the need to smolder their spirit. #ASAP:PQ #ASistasAlwaysPrepared

Discipline disparities between Black and white boys have driven reform efforts for years. But Black girls are arguably the most at-risk student group in the United States.

In honor of Breast Cancer awareness month.
💜

October is Breast Cancer Awareness month, which many ignore as a photo opportunity with pink ribbons.

Unfortunately, this form of cancer runs rampant in our community — disproportionately impacting the lives of our women and our families.

The numbers are quite jarring — with the data showing higher rates of diagnosis and mortality in Black women versus white women.

So what can we do?
1) Encourage regular mammograms over the age of 40.
2) Ensure our loved ones are following up with their doctors!
3) Encourage a healthy diet and exercise routine for the women in our families.

Early detection + healthy lifestyles will help curb this disease in our communities.

3rd annual and first virtual charity 5k: We Run Oakland: For Our Children. 30 to 30 campaign: 30 reasons to get engaged, a 30 day count down. Reason #28: The response to trauma is different for everyone who experiences it. What is so needed in the area of trauma informed care is the consistency of resources, especially in those most vulnerable times. Crisis Support Services of Alameda County, a community based partner for the 3rd year, specializes in caring for others "from the inside out." Recognizing that September is Suicide Prevention month, it is so important that as a community we understand our role in helping others, because we never know when we will need someone. 3 more days to stand for a cause.
