Motorcycle Safety Enforcement Operation in Oakland Area ‼️🚔🏍️

In an effort to reduce the number of motorcycle crashes, Oakland Area will deploy additional
officers August 20, 2026 on Interstate 80, and unincorporated roadways in Contra Costa
County.

Officers will look for violations by both motorcycle riders and drivers that make roads
dangerous for other motorists, including unsafe speed, following too closely, unsafe lane
changes, and improper turning.

Motorcycle-involved crashes in California continue to be a major concern for the California Highway Patrol (CHP). From January 2024 through December 2024, provisional statistical data revealed there were 63 injury crashes involving motorcycles and 2 fatal crashes involving motorcycles in the CHP Oakland Area jurisdiction.

Funding for these operations are provided by a grant from the Office of Traffic Safety, through
the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Titled “Get Educated and Ride Safe (GEARS) VIII, the grant funding assists the CHP in reducing deadly and serious injury
crashes involving motorcycles.

The Oakland Area will continue to deploy additional enforcement efforts through September 30, 2026.

Duck, duck… GOOSE! 🦆🦆🪿

The CHP Oakland Area received calls about a goose walking across the traffic lanes. Our officers responded and safely caught our feathered friend before it became a traffic hazard.

At CHP Oakland, no two calls are the same. From helping a goose safely cross the road to fighting crime and keeping our communities safe, our officers are ready to answer the call—whatever it may be. 👮‍♂️🪿🚔

Different calls. Same commitment to serving and protecting.

What started as a good idea for this guy ended with a good idea for us: putting him behind bars. 🚔

While on patrol, Officer J. Abed and Officer E. Ceja observed a violation of 594 PC (vandalism) in progress. The suspect decided to turn it into a foot bail—but not on our watch.

After a short foot pursuit, officers located more than just paint and spray cans. A firearm, drugs, and a knife were also recovered.

One bad decision turned into several more—and ultimately, a trip to jail.

Nice try. 🫡

Wait... this all happened in just three traffic stops.

Three different stops. Three different arrests.

Our officers recovered an AK-style rifle, a sawed-off shotgun, located illegal drugs, and took an impaired driver off the road—all during separate enforcement stops.

Routine traffic enforcement often leads to much more than a citation. Every stop has the potential to prevent violence, remove illegal weapons, and keep impaired drivers from putting others at risk.

Drive responsibly. Make smart choices. We’ll keep doing our part to keep our communities safe.

Today, we honor the 20th anniversary of Officer Brent Clearman’s, ID 17843, end of watch.

A dedicated California Highway Patrol officer, he made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty. Twenty years later, his service, courage, and commitment continue to be remembered and honored.

Surrounded by fellow officers, friends, and family, a new wreath was placed beneath the freeway memorial sign as a tribute to his lasting legacy.

Never forgotten. End of Watch. Forever remembered. 💙🖤

Another night on the town.

On July 15, 2026, CHP Oakland officers responded to a vehicle blocking freeway lanes after the driver reported it would not start. While attempting to move the vehicle with the driver’s permission, an officer spotted a firearm in plain view. A subsequent search led to the discovery of an automatic firearm, a BB gun resembling a Glock-style handgun, brass knuckles, and counterfeit currency.

Great work by our officers, whose professionalism and vigilance helped remove dangerous weapons from our community.
