Over this past weekend, Officer Jackson competed in his first bodybuilding competition. He trained very hard for this event and we couldn't be more proud of him.

Officer Jackson was able to secure a 1st place victory in the Hero's Division, which is a division for First Responders only. He also took home a 2nd place win in the Novice Division.

Please help us congratulate Officer Jackson on a much deserved win!

Good afternoon Oakland and the surrounding area!!!!

On Thursday, May 7, 2026, the Kyle Petty Charity Ride Across America will be coming through Fayette County in the morning. They will be traveling from Shelby County so this should not impact morning rush hour very much.

The group, consisting of approximately 150 motorcycles along with their support vehicles, will hit Oakland around 8:00am. The Oakland Police Department will have officers stationed at Hwy 64/Hwy 196, Hwy 64/Chickasaw Ridge, and Hwy 64/194. We will be holding N/B and S/B traffic at these intersections until all vehicles have cleared.

Here is the history of this ride....

In 1995, NASCAR driver Kyle Petty combined his passion for helping others with his love of motorcycles to create the Kyle Petty Charity Ride Across America. One of the most successful and popular charity events in the country, the annual motorcycle trek engages celebrities, Ride sponsors, motorcycle enthusiasts, fans and local communities to raise funds and awareness for Victory Junction. Since the Ride's inception, 9,575 riders have logged more than 13.3 million cumulative motorcycle miles and raised more than $23 million for Victory Junction and other children's charities.

The inspiration for the Ride came in 1994, when Petty and three friends rode their motorcycles from North Carolina to a NASCAR race at Phoenix International Raceway. Friends joined the ride along the way, and by the time the group reached Phoenix, it had grown to 30 riders. The turnout inspired Petty, and he decided to nurture the event into something bigger; the Kyle Petty Charity Ride Across America was born.

Since opening in 2004 in honor of Kyle's late son Adam, Victory Junction has served as the Ride's primary beneficiary. Located on 487 acres in Randleman, North Carolina, Victory Junction exists to enrich the lives of children with chronic medical illnesses by creating camping experiences that are memorable, fun, empowering, physically safe and medically sound.

Fans and spectators along the Charity Ride route may contribute to the Charity Ride's "Small Change. Big Impact." program, which accepts donations at local stops.

The Oakland Police Department is proud to introduce a new initiative designed to enhance safety, understanding, and communication in our community. We are taking a page out of the BARTLETT POLICE DEPARTMENT playbook and following suit on this program.

Our department is launching a voluntary vehicle decal program to help first responders quickly recognize when an occupant may be on the autism spectrum. These decals are intended to provide critical awareness during traffic stops or emergency situations, allowing officers and emergency personnel to adjust their approach with greater care and sensitivity. The decals measure 3 inches tall and 2-3/4 inches wide.

This program is about building trust, reducing misunderstandings, and ensuring that every member of our community is treated with the respect and support they deserve.

Decals are available at Oakland Police Department, 170 Doss Circle Monday thru Friday 8am-5pm. They will be available at the Court Clerks window. As previously stated, participation is completely voluntary. If you do wish to participate you must reside within the city limits of Oakland and bring proof of residency with you.

Together, we can make our roads safer and our community stronger!

P.S........... If you happen to see Officer Hill out and about on patrol, give her an 'atta boy for this idea. She is the one who saw it, created our sticker, and presented it to Administration for approval.

Good sunny Wednesday afternoon. It’s been a while, but the “Wall of Shame” is back.

We’ve removed “Walmart” from the title because some recent arrests involve thefts at other businesses in Oakland. These businesses will be highlighted in red alongside each individual listed.

As a reminder, all individuals are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Ok sorry about that, the pics are uploading now…
