Lighthouse and Lodestar partner with colleges to provide our students with comprehensive college guidance through high school to ensure our students seamlessly transition to college-life ✨🎓

College and career guidance is essential for our students.

In California public schools, the average student-to-counselor ratio is 544:1 — far above the recommended 250:1. Research shows that lower ratios lead to better test scores, attendance, GPAs, graduation rates, and fewer disciplinary issues.

At Lighthouse and Lodestar, our donors support makes that ratio 40:1! 🌟

Today we celebrate Shuna Day of Love ❣️

We celebrate the extraordinary impact of Ms. Shuna Lewis, a beloved special education teacher at Lighthouse Community Public Schools for 15 years who passed away in 2022. Her birthday, December 11th, is the Shuna Lewis Day of Love.

Ms. Lewis embodied love, inclusion, and advocacy, making every student, family member, and staff feel valued and supported.

Her legacy includes co-creating the Enhanced Inclusion Program to ensure that every student is fully included in their education, no matter the level of support needed. In her words, “No student deserves to be a spectator in others’ learning.” To honor her light and dedication, we renamed our program the Shuna Lewis Enhanced Inclusion Program to continue her dream of meaningful inclusion. 🌟

Jesús Lares, Lighthouse Class of 2024, is the youngest of three sons and charting a path less traveled among his peers. While in high school at Lighthouse, Jesús balanced dual enrollment college classes in Business and Interpersonal Communications with an eye toward a future in the skilled trades.

Recent Lighthouse graduate Jesús Lares' path led him to Cypress Mandela. “I feel more excited and confident about my future,” Jesús says. “Cypress Mandela prepared me so well.
