🌐 AIMS High School welcomed a special guest from our Virtual Reality Dual Enrollment class with Berkeley City College! He brought VR goggles for students to dive into a hands-on experience.

💻 Throughout the course, our students will use VR in various educational apps, from world-building to digital art, expanding their creative and technical skills. At the end of the class, students will showcase their projects in an exhibition, adding an impressive touch to their portfolios for college applications!

🌼 AIMS K-12 at the Oakland Día de los Mu***os Festival!

🌟 This past weekend, AIMS K-12 was proud to sponsor the Oakland Día de los Mu***os Festival, hosted by our amazing partners at The Unity Council! Our AIMS High School students joined the celebration by teaching children how to make cempasúchiles (traditional marigolds) — a cherished symbol of love and remembrance for Día de los Mu***os.

🕯️ Día de los Mu***os, or Day of the Dead, is a beautiful tradition honoring the lives of loved ones who have passed. Celebrated across Latin America, it is a time to come together, share memories, and embrace family and community.

🤝 Special thanks to our enrollment team for sharing the AIMS mission with festival-goers and inviting families to join us for the 2025-2026 school year! We’re grateful to the Unity Council and the Fruitvale community for their warm welcome.

📢 AIMS Board and Governance Team partnered with AIMS Parents United for a productive Town Hall and Community Meeting! Together, we reviewed AIMS test scores and the perception survey results from students and parents.

🤝 Parents shared valuable insights on topics such as Saturday School, technology, world languages, and homework. The SGA advocated for the student perspective with request for additional resources and school events. Thank you to everyone who participated and contributed their questions and concerns. Together, we’re committed to making our schools the best they can be!

🎃 Today, AIMS K-12 hosted a lively Harvest Festival where students dressed up in imaginative and creative costumes, making for a day full of fun and festive spirit! Our K-8 students shared some of their favorite foods and snacks. High School students showcased their creativity by organizing an impressive Haunted House experience and a Mummy Game.

🍁 Events like these highlight the joy and togetherness within our AIMS community. Thank you to all students and staff who participated and helped make today a memorable celebration! Special thanks to our Student Government Associations for organizing and hosting the event.

🎉 AIMS High School students hosted a wonderful celebration for National Hispanic Heritage Month!

🌸 Students led a powerful presentation on the importance of diversity and inclusivity, sharing the cultural significance of Dia De Los Mu***os. They also set up a beautiful altar, performed traditional dances, and treated friends and family to a delicious taco dinner and Mexican candies. It was a night filled with learning, laughter, and appreciation for Hispanic culture!

🎨 AIMS Middle School students beautifully decorated calaveras and created an Ofrenda to honor Dia De Los Mu***os!

🕯️ Dia De Los Mu***os, or Day of the Dead, is a Mexican tradition that celebrates and remembers loved ones who have passed away. The colorful calaveras (skulls) are a key symbol of this holiday, representing the vibrant and joyful way we honor and remember the dead.

❤️💛 In the October Edition of AIMS Eagle Talk Magazine, we are proud to celebrate the newly elected leaders of our AIMS Staff and Faculty Advisory Committee, Student Government, and AIMS Parent United! These dedicated individuals are ready to make a positive impact on our school community. Students also share heartfelt stories about what they love most about AIMS, highlighting the strong sense of belonging and academic excellence that defines our schools.

🎓 The ELOP program has officially started, offering students a variety of exciting clubs and activities designed to enhance both their academic and personal growth. On the college front, tours and applications are in full swing for our high school students. Meanwhile, AIMS is offering student’s our support with ELPAC testing and new student IEPs. AIMS Athletes are thriving this season, with volleyball, soccer, and cross-country teams training hard and gearing up for competition.

🚮 AIMS Elementary School welcomed Recycling Education Representatives from Waste Management for an exciting assembly focused on waste sorting! Students learned how to become waste heroes by properly sorting items into landfill, recycling, and compost bins, and even earned special prizes for sorting common waste items correctly.

🐛 They also met the champions of waste sorting and a special guest, Wiggle E Worm! Thank you to Waste Management for providing this fun and hands-on learning experience

🚒 AIMS Elementary School hosted the Oakland Fire Department for a special visit with our Kindergarten and First Grade classes! The firefighters and paramedics shared captivating stories about their day-to-day roles and explained how they work to keep our community safe. They also showed off their protective gear (PPE), giving students a hands-on learning experience, and demonstrated the tools they use during emergencies. The highlight of the day was when the students got to see the fire truck up close, which sparked curiosity and excitement!

🧯 We are so grateful to our Community Liaison, Ms. Golden, for organizing this incredible visit that not only taught our young learners about fire safety but also inspired some future firefighters in the making. Thank you to the Oakland Fire Department for your service and for taking the time to educate our students!

This event provided a valuable opportunity for our students to engage with the community and gain a deeper understanding of cultural traditions and history.

🎓 AIMS welcomed KTVU News, Fox 2 to attend the High School Graduation to celebrate 15 years of 100% college acceptance rates for AIMS senior graduating class. The Class of 2024 has 84 graduating seniors who will all be attending college in the Fall. The high school is award winning for helping Black and LatinX students achieve their educational goals. 🙌🏽 It wasn’t the easiest path for the Class of 2024, who started high school during the pandemic. Their Freshman year was all online and they had to navigate through technical difficulties and online learning their first year. 🎙️🎥AIMS High School students attended the CCSA Conference Podcast Takeover and recorded a Podcast episode with Sal Khan, from Khan Academy. 🎙️🎥The Khan Academy has online resources and tools to assist students in their learning journeys. For the AIMS Podcast, students asked Sal Khan if he had any advice on what students can do in High School to stand out in Ivy League school applications. Mr. Khan encouraged students to get proactive and engaged in whichever college or university they attend and to seek out all the resources they had available on campus. 🎓📝 He explained that the more selective universities favor strong academics as well as applying sideways, or finding ways to differentiate your application. AIMS Middle School is celebrating Black History Month and the Lunar New Year with a Door Decorating Contest depicting inspirational figures throughout history and decorations common in lunar festivals. Join us for a short series this month to delve into their artistic pieces! Middle School students from SJSU room, Isay and Olivia, spotlight the students of Little Rock Nine who fought to desegregate schools following the US Supreme Court decision in Brown V. Board of Education in 1957. Students Ernest Green, Elizabeth Eckford, Jefferson Thomas, Terrence Roberts, Carlotta Walls LaNier, Minnijean Brown, Gloria Ray Karlmark, Thelma Mothershed, and Melba Pattillo Beals braved opposition in Little Rock, Arkansas to join a previously all-white school. The AIMS K-12 College Prep Story

“Our mission at AIMS is to cultivate a community of diverse learners who achieve academic excellence. Our commitment to high expectations is attendance, academic achievement, and character development results in our students being prepared for lifelong success.”

Founded in 1996, AIMS K-12 College Prep Charter District began as a middle school (AIPCS) by Native American families looking to retain a cultural connection for their children. AIPCS was Oakland’s second publicly-funded charter school. In 2006, AIPCS became the first Oakland public charter school in Oakland to win recognition as a National Blue Ribbon School. Later that year, AIPCS expanded to include a high school (AIPHS), and, in 2012, AIMS K-12 expanded to include an elementary school. As AIMS K-12 grew, the student body became increasingly diverse, and, in 2020, both our elementary and middle schools were recognized for nearly closing the achievement gap in African American students. To date, AIMS K-12 currently serves approximately 1350 students.
