It’s #AmericanEducationWeek, and Techbridge Girls is celebrating by answering a #FAQ: Who are #EquityEducators?
Equity Educators are Out-of-School Time (#OST) educators and #STEM professionals who, through our curricula and rigorous training, are empowered to reflect on their own #biases and power imbalance related to their identities and position. They have confidence in implementing #culturallyrelevant and #genderresponsive practices to their environments and learn strategies for centering #marginalizedidentities in STEM.
Equity Educators have sustained awareness of the ways multiple identities are often marginalized within STEM education and advocate for diverse STEM lineages that center the contributions of #BIPOC peoples outside of TBG. And they have sustained confidence creating an inclusive and safe space for students to bring their whole selves.
Equity Educators serve as STEM gatekeepers, with the power to disrupt #inequitable systems and pave the way for the next generation of #STEMleaders. Join us this week and every week as we celebrate TBG’s Equity Educators. Follow the link to hear from one of our amazing Equity Educators: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E8LMSxfv8KU

Much like the film #WishDragon, @TechbridgeGirls understands the importance of friendship, which is why we are thrilled to partner with @NetflixFamily as they grant wishes and #payitforward by celebrating our brilliant #BIPOC #GirlsinSTEM!
In a recent @insider article, @netflix was highlighted for offering annual base salaries starting at $70,000. They are a great example of how today’s companies can create #STEM jobs that offer fair living wages jobs and create economic mobility for their employees. We are honored to stand with organizations like @NetflixFamily who prioritize their employee’s well being and are working to create an #inclusive and fair workplace for all.
As we close out #VolunteerMonth, we are thrilled to share our #LeadFearlessly interview with long-time Techbridge Girls volunteer Denise Cooke. Denise has been sharing her time, brilliance, and mentorship with Techbridge Girls for more than a decade!
In our interview, she explores how she leads fearlessly, reflects on her #STEM journey as an engineer, and explains the importance of volunteering with Techbridge Girls: https://techbridgegirls.org/index.php?id=555
Thank you, Denise, for your dedication and commitment to ensuring that our girls and gender-expansive youth see themselves represented in STEM role models.
Today's #VolunteerMonth spotlight is Carolyn Joseph, a materials engineer at Chevron! Carolyn is one of several Chevron volunteers who participated as a Role Model in our virtual Techbridge [email protected] series to spark girls' and gender-expansive youth's interest in their #STEM journeys. Carolyn demonstrated our Slowest Lander engineering lesson, in which our girls design and build a device that will hold supplies and let them fall as slowly as possible so they land safely on the ground. For Carolyn, "studying engineering was the perfect way for me to combine my favorite subjects with being creative." She shared that her role at Chevron is "important for the future, and we believe our greatest resource is our people. Our ingenuity, creativity, and collaboration have met the complex challenges of energy’s past. Together, we’ll take on the future to provide reliable, affordable, and ever-cleaner energy for the millions around the world that rely on us.” Thank you, Carolyn, for sharing your time with us to create a fun and engaging STEM experience that build connection and community!
#EngineeringOurFuture with Bunmi Esho
From attending boarding school to improving schools, Bunmi Esho is a chemical engineer who chose a path that spoke to her! Formerly our Director of Strategic Partnerships, Bunmi is deeply committed to ensuring that BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, People of Color) girls and gender-expansive youth are represented in STEM. Our CEO @Nikole Collins-Purii just caught up with Bunmi for #EWeek2021! Watch the video below to hear about Bunmi’s STEM journey, her role models, and her perspective on how our youth are #EngineeringOurFuture.
Inauguration Day 2021
On this momentous Inauguration Day, Techbridge Girls CEO Nikole Collins-Puri reflects: “Today I get to see the first Black woman that looks like me, that has a story like me, sit in one of the highest positions of our country. I’m so hopeful for what this brings... I’m excited about the future. I’m excited about her leadership, and I’m excited about what our girls will believe is normal for them going forward.”
We cannot wait to enter this new chapter as our girls see themselves represented in Kamala Harris, a #rolemodel who exemplifies what it means to #leadfearlessly. Congratulations to her and Joe Biden for being sworn in today.
As we reflect on 2020, and the last 20 years of impact that we’ve achieved with all of you, we’re reminded of the powerful words shared by our CEO Nikole Collins-Puri at our virtual 20th Anniversary Gala this fall: “When I think about 20 years ago, the phrase ‘trailblazers that have led fearlessly’ comes to mind… and when I think about being able to see our girls thrive and grow and prosper in the STEM revolution, 20 years ago I think we had the vision for it, but now we can actually see it.” #LeadFearlessly
Fall 2020 TBG Update & Virtual Gala
The explosion of racial injustice that continues to be at the beat of our everyday experience that our country can no longer ignore… We have to transform our systems, our practices, our policies in order for our girls to thrive.” In this video, Techbridge Girls CEO Nikole Collins-Puri shares updates on how we're advocating for our girls, and invites you to attend our virtual 20th Anniversary Gala on October 7, 2020 as we uplift our girls' stories and accomplishments.
