Face coverings are one of the most effective ways to slow the spread of #covid19. In #AlamedaCounty, masks are required at all times when out in public, even when exercising or with your social bubble. By doing our part to wear face masks, maintain a safe distance from others (6 ft. or more), practice safe hygiene, we can keep each other safe and healthy and slow the spread of COVID-19 in our community. #maskontomoveon

Alameda County to give stipends to some coronavirus victims

Last week, the Board of Supervisors unanimously allocated $10 million to create a pilot program to provide stipends to eligible #AlamedaCounty residents who have tested positive for #COVID19 and do not have paid sick leave or unemployment benefits.

Without this safety net, COVID-positive workers who cannot afford the lost wages are forced to choose between making ends meet or sheltering in place to self-quarantine. With this $1,250 stipend, Alameda County aims to stop the spread of COVID-19 by allowing workers to recover safely at home.

The program is in development and will target the hardest hit neighborhoods in Alameda County. Eligible residents will need a referral from contracted community health clinics. Additional details will be shared once the program begins.

The program will provide $1,250 to eligible participants

Help shape America’s future by responding to the Census before October 31, 2020. You can fill it out online, by phone, or by mail. Learn more at 2020census.gov.

New orders from the Alameda County Offices Public Health Department go into effect today.

Childcare and extracurricular activities are now open for all children, not just children of essential workers. In addition, libraries are allowed to provide curbside pick-up of books and other media.

These new orders also permit for "Social Bubbles." Social Bubbles are small groups (12 or fewer people) from different households and can participate in small outdoor gatherings. Participation in a Social Bubble should be limited to one bubble at a time, follow social distancing practices (maintaining a minimum of 6 ft. distance), and wear face coverings. For more information on Social Bubbles, please see the press release below:

New Health Officer Orders effective June 8 allow for “Social Bubbles,” childcare and extracurricular activities for all children, and other businesses to resume including pet grooming. Face coverings must be worn at all times, including when active outdoors. Accompanying reopening plan outlines next phases of relaxations. If you have questions about the orders, please contact our Public Heath Department by email [email protected] or call (510) 268-2101.

Diabetes and high blood pressure are two of the underlying health conditions that put people at a higher risk of suffering complications due to COVID-19.

During the Shelter in Place orders, it may be difficult to for people with diabetes and/or high blood pressure to access the healthy foods they need to mange these conditions. These nutrition guides from the UCSF Center for Vulnerable Populations provide tips on how to stock up on healthy foods and maintain a healthy diet during this health crisis.

If you live in #AlamedaCounty and need access to food during the Shelter in Place, please contact the Alameda County Community Food Bank for assistance.

We are all in this together. Help protect our high-risk neighbors by following safe hygiene and physical distancing guidelines. The best way to stay healthy is to stay home.
