Adaptability is the key to health! When the COVID pandemic began to spread across California, ALL IN’s Food as Medicine initiative made two crucial adaptations:

1. Transitioning the in-person Behavioral Pharmacy, run by Open Source Wellness, to virtual video calls and

2. Pivoting the pop-up Food Farmacies, co-located in community health clinics, to doorstep food deliveries made by Dig Deep Farms and Food Hub.

By making healthy food accessible and providing ongoing social support, FAM has reduced the overlapping burdens of food insecurity, chronic disease, and COVID hospitalizations. Together, we can adapt and stay well! #allinalamedacounty #allinforfoodsecurity #foodasmedicine #foodfarmacies

🗣 New #foodasmedicine clinic starts today! 🗣

We are excited to launch the newest expansion of our food as medicine initiative with LifeLong Medical Care in Berkeley! This site features both a Food Farmacy & a Behavioral Pharmacy. Patients are prescribed a food prescription to help treat, prevent, and reverse chronic disease while the Behavioral Pharmacy provides patients with social connection, physical activity, and stress reduction.

We’d like to thank our partners at Dig Deep Farms and Food Hub for providing the food to fill the prescriptions & our partners at Open Source Wellness for providing the behavioral group support programs.

Thank you to our funders at Alameda Alliance for Health, U.S. Department of Agriculture Gus Schumacher Nutrition Incentive Program, and Stupski Foundation for your generous support!

Face coverings are one of the most effective ways to slow the spread of #covid19. In #AlamedaCounty, masks are required at all times when out in public, even when exercising or with your social bubble. By doing our part to wear face masks, maintain a safe distance from others (6 ft. or more), practice safe hygiene, we can keep each other safe and healthy and slow the spread of COVID-19 in our community. #maskontomoveon

Alameda County to give stipends to some coronavirus victims

Last week, the Board of Supervisors unanimously allocated $10 million to create a pilot program to provide stipends to eligible #AlamedaCounty residents who have tested positive for #COVID19 and do not have paid sick leave or unemployment benefits.

Without this safety net, COVID-positive workers who cannot afford the lost wages are forced to choose between making ends meet or sheltering in place to self-quarantine. With this $1,250 stipend, Alameda County aims to stop the spread of COVID-19 by allowing workers to recover safely at home.

The program is in development and will target the hardest hit neighborhoods in Alameda County. Eligible residents will need a referral from contracted community health clinics. Additional details will be shared once the program begins.

The program will provide $1,250 to eligible participants

New orders from the Alameda County Offices Public Health Department go into effect today.

Childcare and extracurricular activities are now open for all children, not just children of essential workers. In addition, libraries are allowed to provide curbside pick-up of books and other media.

These new orders also permit for "Social Bubbles." Social Bubbles are small groups (12 or fewer people) from different households and can participate in small outdoor gatherings. Participation in a Social Bubble should be limited to one bubble at a time, follow social distancing practices (maintaining a minimum of 6 ft. distance), and wear face coverings. For more information on Social Bubbles, please see the press release below:

New Health Officer Orders effective June 8 allow for “Social Bubbles,” childcare and extracurricular activities for all children, and other businesses to resume including pet grooming. Face coverings must be worn at all times, including when active outdoors. Accompanying reopening plan outlines next phases of relaxations. If you have questions about the orders, please contact our Public Heath Department by email [email protected] or call (510) 268-2101.
