It was a busy day at Oakton Library today with swarms of volunteers working to set up our large Fall Book Sale.
(As much as any group of volunteers can swarm while masked and socially-distanced, of course. And vaccinated, too.)

We're all looking forward to hosting our first large sale in two years; this Wednesday - Saturday. You will find a wide selection of books and media for all ages, and may get some of your holiday shopping done as well.

On Wednesday, October 27, the Oakton Library staff and Friends of Oakton gathered to celebrate Branch Manager Lisa Kerns' upcoming retirement.

Friday, November 5th will be Lisa's last day, so if you see her at the library in the next few days, please wish her well in the next chapter of her life. (That was a library pun.)
While Friday will be her last day as the Oakton Manager, she and her husband, Dick will remain in the area, so we expect to still see her around occasionally.

Thank you for five years at Oakton, Lisa, and we wish you the very best in the future!

We Remember: Eight Children's Books About September 11th

Are you kids asking about the events of 9/11?
Are you wondering how to talk with them about that day?

Barnes and Noble has created a list of age-appropriate books that you can use to help your kids understand the event:
https://www.barnesandnoble.com/blog/kids/we-remember-eight-childrens-books-about-september-11th/

Many of these titles are available in the library, too.

Most of us remember the morning of September 11, 2001. Where we were; what we were doing; who we called. But as the 18th anniversary approaches, we find ourselves living in a time when many of our schoolchildren were either born after that date, or were too young at the time to remember the attacks.

We're so excited to announce that Oakton Library will resume accepting donations of used books, beginning today! For now,...

For now, we ask that you limit your donations to one bag or box per day, as we restart this process.

And keep an eye on Facebook for information about our next large book sale in November.

Young library customer Damian visited newly-reopened Oakton Library this morning, and was very excited to finally be able to explore the new alphabet map rug and the globe on display in the public areas. It was great fun!

Both of these were purchased about six months ago but have not been in the public areas due to COVID-19 protocols.
