2026 MATH KANGAROO COMPETITION RESULTS:

This past March, 62 Waples Mill students from grades 1-6 participated in the Math Kangaroo Competition, a national competition in math. The exam was very challenging and tested mathematical skills and logical reasoning by grade level. We commend all students for participating and wish to congratulate our school’s top performers Evan Huan (2nd grader who competed at the 3rd/4th grade level) and Raewoon Kim (2nd grade) for winning awards and ranking Top 11 or better in the nation and Top 5 or better in the state! Evan won an additional prize from Math Kangaroo for his Top 6 finish in the nation! Thank you to all who participated and to the PTA for organizing this event.

SENIOR SPELLING BEE WINNERS:

Congratulations to Arisha Gupta (5th grade) for winning the Senior Spelling Bee! Congratulations also to our 1st runner up Samuel Bullard (3rd grade) and 2nd runner up Summer Sun (6th grade)!

The Senior Bee was held on February 25th with 22 spellers from grades 4th through 6th as well as the Junior Spelling Bee champion participating. The Senior Bee went on for an incredible 31 rounds and reached the challenge portion of the competition where spellers were given words to spell that were not provided on the study list! Spellers were asked to spell some very difficult words such as “sarsaparilla” and “maquisards”! Arisha won by spelling the word “cursive” correctly. She now has an opportunity to represent our school in the Fairfax County Regional Spelling Bee.

We are very proud of all the students who participated in the Senior Bee for their courage, hard work, dedication, and a job very well done!

JUNIOR SPELLING BEE WINNERS:

Congratulations to Samuel Bullard (3rd grade) for winning the Junior Spelling Bee! Congrats also to our 1st runner up Neilan Patel (2nd grade) and 2nd runner up Adam Khan (3rd grade)!

The Junior Bee was held on February 11th with 43 spellers from grades Kindergarten through 3rd grade participating. Students were asked to spell a little over 100 words including words above their grade level such as “ancestral” and “dubious”! Samuel won by spelling the word “foreign” correctly. He now has an opportunity to compete in the Senior Spelling Bee.

We applaud all the students who participated in the Junior Bee for their bravery, hard work, dedication, and a job well done! We look forward to the Senior Spelling Bee (grades 4th-6th) later this week!

Great job on reaching our 40% Booosterthon registration goal for today. We will have an all school PJ Day tomorrow (Thursday 5/29). For tonight's challenge, the grade that has the most students signed up by tomorrow will earn a DJ recess with the Booster Team! 🔊
