What a wonderful day this week celebrating our new Wright Brothers-themed Little Free Library at Katharine Wright Park!

Wright Library was selected as the home of this unique, custom-branded Little Free
Library inspired by the newly released children's book "We are the Wright Brothers", the 40th title in the award-winning Ordinary People Change the World series by bestselling author Brad Meltzer and acclaimed illustrator Christopher Eliopoulos.

We were honored to have Wright family descendants Amanda Wright Lane and Steven Wright join us for this event.

Our 2026–2027 Youth Library Ambassadors proudly represented Wright Library at the ribbon cutting alongside Director Kristi Hale, Youth Services Coordinator Michele Schoen, and Board of Trustees members Darrell Crowe and Jennifer Enseleit.

Thank you to everyone who joined us for this special occasion, including Oakwood Mayor William Duncan and City Council Members Leigh Turban and Sam Dorf, and State Rep. Andrea White.

What’s next: Wright Library will host a special opportunity for young readers and aspiring artists at at “Draw with Christopher Eliopoulos” event in the Wright Library Community Room on Saturday, Nov. 7 at 2 p.m. Attendees will learn to draw famous historical heroes with Eliopoulos, who will join us by livestream, with special content inspired by We Are the Wright Brothers. Seating is limited and registration is requested at wrightlibrary.org/calendar.

Wright Library is pleased to welcome Sam Wachman, author of The Sunflower Boys, the 2026 Fiction Winner of the Dayton Literary Peace Prize, for a conversation and book signing at Wright Library, Friday Nov. 6 at 5 p.m.

The conversation, moderated by Wright State University English professor Drew Strombeck, will kick off to the Dayton Literary Peace Prize weekend.

The Sunflower Boys is a poignant coming-of-age story with the sensitivity and haunting power of What Belongs to You and Swimming in the Dark, about a young boy wrestling with his sexuality as war breaks out in modern Ukraine.

The Sunflower Boys is the 2026 Fiction Winner of the Dayton Literary Peace Prize, the first and only annual U.S. literary award recognizing the power of the written word to promote peace.

The book was also a finalist for the 2026 Lambda Literary Award in Gay Fiction, longlisted for the 2026 Massachusetts Book Award for Fiction, named a 2026 American Library Association Notable Book.

Join us for a chance to win a copy of “The Sunflower Boys” or tickets to the DLPP Conversation with the Authors (Saturday, November 7 at Victoria Theatre, Dayton).

Wright Library’s Community Room seating capacity is 80, so please arrive early to ensure your seat.

Sam Wachman's visit is made possible with support from the Wright Memorial Library Foundation and the Dayton Literary Peace Prize Foundation.
