After 24 years of dedicated service to the Town of Oberlin, And 16 years as Chief of Police , Chief Grady Haynes has officially announced his retirement effective at the end of this year in December.

Chief Haynes made history as Oberlin’s first African American Chief of Police and the first Black Police Chief in Allen Parish. More importantly, he built a legacy rooted in integrity, fairness, and a true commitment to the community he proudly served.

For nearly a quarter century, he led with strength, humility, and vision — always working to bridge the gap between law enforcement and the citizens of Oberlin.

Please join the Oberlin Police Department in congratulating Chief Haynes on an outstanding career and thanking him for his years of service and leadership.

Your legacy will always be remembered, Chief. 💙🚔

Due to extremely cold temperatures, potentially hazardous road conditions and concerns related to our facilities and pipes, all district schools and offices will be CLOSED on Monday, January 26, 2026.

The safety of our students, staff and families is our top priority. We will continue to monitor conditions and will provide updates about future operations, as soon as possible.

🚨 Winter Storm Advisory – Community Notice 🚨

The Town of Oberlin Police Department would like to inform residents that an winter storm is expected to impact our area this weekend. Forecasts indicate the potential for hazardous road conditions, reduced visibility, and extreme cold temperatures.

We urge all residents to take the following precautions:
• Avoid unnecessary travel during periods of heavy snow or ice.
• If you must travel, slow down, allow extra stopping distance, and keep emergency supplies in your vehicle.
• Check on elderly neighbors, family members, and those who may need assistance.
• Dress appropriately for the cold and limit time outdoors when possible.
• Ensure pets are brought indoors and have adequate shelter.

Our officers, along with public works and emergency services, will be actively monitoring conditions and responding as needed to keep the community safe.

Please continue to monitor local weather updates and official Town of Oberlin channels for additional information or advisories.
