On Tuesday October 27th, Swatara Fire Rescue firefighters were introduced to their new NFPA 1582 Firefighter Physical Benefit, provided by a partnership between UPMC and Swatara Township.
Firefighters will be provided with
Physical Examination, Blood Analysis, Urinalysis, Lab tests, Audiometric Testing, Visual Acuity Test, Pulmonary Function Test, Chest X-Ray (Due every 5 years), EKG, Stress Test, Cancer Screening, OSHA Respiratory Questionnaire.
After the benefit informational session, the UPMC doctors sought to understand first hand the stress that a firefighter undergoes in the course of his/her duties on an emergency response. They donned turnout gear and performed core firefighting skills with the assistance of STFR firefighters.
We’d like to thank the Swatara Township Board of Commissioners and our township residents for the unwavering support that has allowed this monumental program occur.
