Cedar Trees have become a problem in our area for some landowners. State Cost Share has a program (Brush Management) that can be used to help remove cedar trees. These are the before pictures of a pasture that was just signed up for Brush Management. Stay tuned for more pictures as this project moves forward. Contact your local Conservation District for more information if this is a program you are interested in.

On Tuesday 4th graders from North West Kansas enjoyed a conservation day in Colby put on by the Northwest Kansas Conservation & Environment Alliance. The kids learned about Wind Erosion, Water Erosion, Honey Bees, Farm Safety, Pollinators, Rangeland, Skins and Sculls, Cartography, The Dust bowl and Worms. They were also able to go through the Soil tunnel trailer and step inside a giant earth balloon.

I attended my first Envirothon event this week, my job was to grade the tests. The Envirothon Program is a hands-on environmental problem-solving contest for high school students. There were 9 teams at the State Competition this year. Teams consist of 5 students and are typically sponsored by their local Conservation District. In Kansas both regional and state competitions are held in April.
