The Ocala Police Department, in partnership with the Florida Department of Transportation, is conducting a high‑visibility enforcement effort to reduce speeding and aggressive driving within the city. This operation runs through September 2026 and includes additional officers dedicated to traffic enforcement at all hours, citywide.

Speeding contributes to thousands of deaths across the country each year. Let’s all do our part: slow down, drive responsibly, and help keep our community safe.

NEVER FORGOTTEN: Today, we honor the memory of Assistant Chief of Police Mahlon Otis Tuck, who lost his life in the line of duty on May 28, 1955. Responding to a distress call, Assistant Chief Tuck courageously stepped into a tragic scene involving the murders of Marion County Sheriff's Office deputies Robert Wooten and Curtis Youngblood. Both deputies were killed while investigating a theft at a local residence. During the incident, Assistant Chief Tuck was fatally wounded when the assailant opened fire again.

Assistant Chief Tuck’s ultimate sacrifice serves as a stark reminder of the dangers faced daily by those who protect our communities. He left behind a legacy of bravery and dedication, remembered by his family and community. His legacy of service continued through his family, including descendants who later served with the Ocala Police Department.

We pay tribute to Assistant Chief Tuck, Deputies Wooten, and Youngblood for their commitment to public safety. Their sacrifices will never be forgotten.
