In 1774, on the eve of the American Revolution, explorer William Bartram paddled into the waters of what we know today as Silver Glen Springs. Years later, his stunning published descriptions of Florida’s springs were eagerly read by leaders like George Washington and Thomas Jefferson, proving to the world that the young American continent held unparalleled natural splendor. ✨

Silver Glen isn't just a gorgeous place to cool off. It is a living piece of the original American frontier. As Marion County celebrates America 250, we honor the deep history of the natural wonders that connect our past to our present.

Our community stands on ground that helped a young nation grow. Fort King was built in 1827 as an important outpost just decades after the American Revolution won our independence.

This site represents the next chapter of the American story as our country expanded into the Florida territory. As Marion County celebrates America 250, we honor the courage of those who built the early landmarks that paved the way for the Marion County we know today.

Our independence was secured by the courage of 56 individuals. These signers of the Declaration of Independence set a journey in motion that has defined the last 250 years. The youngest was 26 year old Edward Rutledge and the oldest was 70 year old Benjamin Franklin.

They risked everything to establish the values we are celebrating today. As Marion County joins the rest of the country for America 250, we honor the legacy of those who signed our story into existence two and a half centuries ago.
