Merry Christmas 🎄 We are pleased to conclude the year by sharing the latest update from the Occidental Fire Department. We have recently acquired a 2024 CanAm Defender Side-by-Side Off-road Rescue Vehicle. The CanAm was purchased for deployment within the Occidental Fire district, Willow Creek State Park, the recently acquired Monte Rio County Park, and Camp Meeker Park. As depicted in the accompanying photographs, the CanAm features a medical bed equipped with the capability to transport our stokes basket and accommodate a seat for an EMT to attend to a patient. The CanAm will be available for mutual aid to neighboring districts and throughout Sonoma County. The Occidental Community Service District funded the vehicle, while the medical bed was purchased through a TOT grant. Notably, the department has already responded to two incidents within Willow Creek State Park. We extend our gratitude to Occidental for its continued support.

Hi Folks, I know it’s been awhile since my last post. We’ve had a lot of positive things happening at our fire department. I’ll be making posts in the coming months, stay tuned.
I’ll start with some very exciting news. We have 4 members of our department who are now certified in Swift Water Rescue. The members are Engineer Torrey Farmer, Engineer Kyle Calvi, Firefighter Nico Ernst and Firefighter Colton Muchmore. We will now have one rescue swimmer on duty, sometimes 2 depending on shift schedules. Congratulations, thank you for your hard work and dedication to our community.
Occidental Fire Department will be able to provide Swift Water Rescue to the Occidental Community, neighboring communities and county wide if requested.
The Occidental Fire Department Association donated $10k to purchase all the necessary safety gear to outfit the 4 firefighters. The Occidental Community Service District paid $3,500 toward the training.
Special thank you to Graton Fire Protection District for loaning our firefighters the safety gear in order for them to take the rescue class.

Hi Folks, Chief Lunardi here with more positive Occidental Fire Department news.
This week we will be retiring our 1997 Freightliner 2000 gallon Water Tender #5792. We will put in service our new 2025 Freightliner 2000 gallon Water Tender. It will be numbered the same as the retired water tender #5792.
The new tender was paid for by the tax payers in the Occidental Community Service District. In addition, money earned by Occidental Fire Engines participating in state wide strike teams.
The retired water tender has found a new home with Castella Fire Protection District located near Shasta Lake.

Message from Occidental Fire Chief, Ron Lunardi. I would like to announce we just finished our first week of 24/7 station coverage. We hired 3 paid permanent staff members. They are Josh Cerda, Torrey Farmer and Kyle Calvi. They are on an ABC shift. We also have Nico Ernst and Chris Lapham working 12 hour and 24 hour stipend shifts. We will eventually be hiring additional stipend postions, as we work towards permanent staff members. This is all due in part because of those of you that supported and voted for Measure H.

Very proud Fire Chief this morning we had 3 type 3 engines water tender a dozer and a Chief officer on a 1/2 acre fire in the timber on Fitzpatrick lane I don’t know very many small fire departments that can do that .we worked with our Cal Fire partners and a Monte Rio water tender to quickly contain the fire that was started by a downed power line
