IAFF Local 4032 Mourns the Loss of Brother Kenneth “Kenny” Po***ck #195
It is with incredibly heavy hearts that the men and women of IAFF Local 4032 announce the passing of our brother, friend, and fellow firefighter, Kenneth “Kenny” Po***ck, following a courageous battle with cancer.
Kenny joined the ranks of the Ocean City Fire Department in the summer of 2007 and proudly served the residents and visitors of Ocean City, New Jersey, for nineteen years.
Around the firehouse, most of us simply knew Kenny as “Pickles.” If you had the pleasure of working beside Pickles, chances are he made you laugh. Kenny had a joking nature that could turn an ordinary tour into one you would remember for the rest of your career. He had a big smile, an unmistakable and contagious laugh, and an ability to find humor just about anywhere. Whether you were having a great day or a terrible one, hearing Kenny laugh from across the table usually meant you were about to start laughing too even if you had no idea what was funny.
Anyone who knows the firehouse understands the importance of the kitchen table. It was often Kenny who stood there with a towel over his shoulder, cooking something for all of us to share. He certainly knew his way around the kitchen.
In the fire service, we know that some of the best memories are not made on emergency scenes. They are made sitting around the kitchen table, breaking bread, telling stories, busting each other’s chops, and laughing about things nobody outside the firehouse would ever understand. Kenny was a big part of those moments. His cooking brought people to the table, and his personality kept them there.
As proud as Kenny was to be a firefighter and a brother to us all, there was someone he loved infinitely more: his daughter, Jordyn.
Anyone who spent time around Kenny knew how much Jordyn meant to him. Being her dad was the role that mattered most. The pride and love he had for her were unmistakable, and we hope Jordyn will always know how often her dad spoke about her and just how much she meant to him.
Kenny battled cancer with the same determination and toughness he brought to his career. Through it all, he remained the Kenny we all knew and loved.
There will be plenty of time in the coming days to talk about Kenny’s nineteen years of service, the calls he answered, the people he helped, and the contributions he made to the Ocean City Fire Department. Those things matter, and his service to this community deserves to be remembered. But today, Local 4032 remembers the man behind the uniform.
We remember the jokes.
We remember the food.
We remember his record breaking overtime hours.
We remember how much he appreciated the company of the special people in his life.
We remember his laugh.
We remember a father who loved his daughter.
And we remember our brother.
The firehouse will be a little quieter without Kenny in it, and our Local will never quite be the same.
On behalf of the Executive Board and the entire membership of IAFF Local 4032, I ask that you keep Jordyn, Kenny’s family and friends, and all his brothers and sisters in your thoughts and prayers in the days ahead.
Funeral arrangements and information regarding services will be shared by the Po***ck family as they become available.
Rest easy, Kenny. Thank you for the laughs, the meals, the memories, and nineteen years of brotherhood.
