We had the honor to officially cut the ribbon on the Kennon Barton Broadcast Studio last week at Ocean Springs High School. The studio and classroom, used by students in our Broadcast Journalism class, will now bear the name of Mr. Kennon Barton, a beloved OSHS teacher and musician who poured his heart and soul into providing an extraordinary learning experience for students of all backgrounds.

Known for his kind nature, Mr. Barton cared deeply for all of those around him and will always be remembered for his positive attitude and devotion to learning. May we honor his legacy by always living .

We were honored to recognize our 2026 retirees earlier this week! These outstanding educators are starting a new and exciting chapter of their lives while leaving behind hundreds of years worth of experience and memories! We wish them a happy and safe retirement!

5/18/26 - 3:24 P.M. -- This afternoon, OSHS went into what OSSD refers to as a “Shelter-in-Place” for precautionary reasons due to a phone-in threat made to the campus. Administration immediately notified authorities, and OSSD PD, the Ocean Springs Police Department, and the Jackson County Sheriff's Department worked to secure and sweep the campus.

We are thankful to report that students and staff were not in danger at any point. While campus has been cleared by multiple law enforcement agencies, OSHS will remain in shelter-in-place until dismissal at 3:51 p.m. Checkouts are not permitted and visitors may not enter the building. Please expect delays during dismissal this afternoon.

We will provide updates as soon as they are available.
