Is there anything more powerful than a community that never forgets its own?

Recently, we joined our neighbors at East Meadow American Legion Post 1082 to honor a true legacy of service: the memory of Daniel Bliss. Danny, a member of the Sons of the American Legion, lived by a simple rule: helping others. From rescuing neighbors to offering his skills to refurbish the Post, he didn't just talk about community; he built it.

The ceremony also recognized Nassau County Police Officer Rory Kerley and his partner, K-9 Shammy, for their incredible work. A moment that truly warmed our hearts: Shammy being outfitted in his very own American Legion Riders motorcycle vest: a gesture we know Danny would have loved.

At VFW Post 5199, we are proud to stand with Post 1082 in keeping Danny’s memory alive and carrying his spirit of kindness forward.

Who says the toughest riders in town only have two legs?

Is there anything better than seeing a local hero get the recognition: and the custom gear: they truly deserve? We were so moved to see our community come together recently to honor Nassau County Police Officer Rory Kerley and his incredible K-9 partner, Shammy (affectionately known as "Rock").

The duo was recognized for their fearless work, but the real showstopper was Shammy’s new look: a custom-fitted American Legion Riders motorcycle vest. The secret to their success: an unbreakable bond built on seven years of trust. As Officer Kerley put it, Shammy is simply the "best partner in the police department."

We are honored to help Nathan Hale VFW Post 1469 celebrate a massive milestone, their 100th Anniversary! To mark a century of dedication, they are hosting a "Serve the Service" BBQ Lunch.

The heart of this event: a complimentary BBQ for all Veterans and widows/widowers. It is a warm gesture to say thank you for the sacrifices made and the legacy built over the last hundred years. Expect mouth-watering food, a welcoming atmosphere, and that irreplaceable sense of camaraderie.

We were deeply moved by the recent Law & Order ceremony at East Meadow American Legion Post 1082. The event celebrated Nassau County Police Officer Rory Kerley and his incredible K-9 partner, Shammy: affectionately known as "Rock." 🐕🇺🇸

Their story is one of pure dedication. Following the tragic loss of Daniel Bliss, a cherished neighbor and member of the Sons of the American Legion, Officer Kerley and Shammy didn’t skip a beat. They pushed through obstacles to track down the suspect, helping bring justice and peace of mind to Daniel’s family and our community.
