MARINES on Netflix. Mission: Impossible with Tom Cruise. Pat McAfee live from Parris Island on ESPN.

All of these projects came through our office.

Our team is the bridge between Hollywood, the creator economy, and the United States Marine Corps. We connect storytellers with our people, our installations, and our stories at zero cost to the taxpayer.

This year SXSW turns 40, and the Marines will be in the room. The timing couldn't be better. Austin will be electric next week: Steven Spielberg, Serena Williams, Demi Moore, and Andy Cohen are keynoting. Boots Riley is premiering a new film. SXSW is running all three conferences simultaneously for the first time ever, with a new pop-up village format across downtown.

We're hosting a mixer and we want to meet you.

The best stories about the Marine Corps haven't been told yet. Maybe yours is one of them.

Recently our office was fortunate to host Christian Bale at Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton to screen his new major motion picture Amsterdam. Bale and other actors portray World War I veterans in this movie, now playing in theaters.

It is a tale that weaves historical fact with fiction for a timely cinematic experience. “Most people are surprised to find out that these things really did happen,” stated the Director David O. Russell.

Thanks to Master Sergeant Wayne Edmiston for leading a great discussion on stage as well.

On this day in 1914, the first aerial combat victory occurred during World War I. French pilot Sgt. Joseph Frantz and his mechanic/gunner, Louis Quénault, shot down a German biplane near Reims to record what is considered the first official aerial combat victory.

The key difference in this encounter was the 8-millimeter Hotchkiss machine gun fixed to the front of the French Voison biplane. Mounted guns would soon be standard equipment for WWI combat aircraft, but when the head of Frantz’s V 24 escadrille had requested them for his squadron, he was at first ridiculed for his “Jules Verne” idea.

The Hotchkiss proved its worth when Frantz got into a chase with a two-man German Aviatik biplane during a morning bombing mission near the village of Jonchery-sur-Vesle, not far from the trenches. Frantz recalled later that he saw the passenger in the enemy airplane ahead of him take out a rifle as QuĂ©nault fired a few dozen rounds, finally hitting the Aviatik’s fuel tank. The Germans went down, trailing smoke, and crashed in a swamp.

Today, the F-35 is leading the way in aerial combat, and has already demonstrated its lethality in 2021 when an Israeli F-35 shot down two Iranian UAVs. The F-35 has been featured in movies such as: Man of Steel, The Avengers, Green Lantern, and the fourth Die Hard movie.

The month of October is National Cyber Security Month, and we are thankful to have Marines like those from I Marine Expeditionary Force’s DCO-Internal Defensive Measures who emerged victorious from the Deputy Commandant for Information, Marine Corps “Capture the Flag” Cyber Games 2022.

These games were the first to force teams to focus on defensive cyber skills rather than offensive cyber skills. Here, teams earned points by capturing cyber flags, in a simulated contested environment, which ranged in difficulty from Apprentice, Journeyman and Master. For Cpl. Ian Bergman, a cyberspace warfare operator with I MEF’s DCO-IDM winning team, the uniqueness of this year’s event challenged him and his fellow Marines to try new methods of analyzing data to reach a common goal.

Bridging the gap between talent management and problem solving in a simulated environment was a new challenge for the Marines to overcome. “You have to use talent management to know where to start; who’s good at what and being able to look at questions from every different angle,” stated Staff Sgt. Keith Wolf, the team leader for DCO-IDM.

Cybersecurity and cyberpsychology have been highlighted in multiple movies including: Hackers (1995), the documentary Zero Day (2016), and the blended fiction/documentary The Social Dilemma.

Happy 75th Birthday US Air Force!

The U.S. War Department created the first antecedent of the U.S. Air Force as a part of the U.S. Army, on 1 August 1907, which through a succession of changes of organization, titles, and missions advanced toward eventual independence 40 years later. In practice, the U.S. Army Air Forces (USAAF) was virtually independent of the Army during World War II, and in virtually every way functioned as an independent service branch, but airmen still pressed for formal independence. The National Security Act of 1947 was signed on 26 July 1947 by President Harry S. Truman, which established the Department of the Air Force, but it was not until 18 September 1947, when the first secretary of the Air Force, W. Stuart Symington, was sworn into office that the Air Force was officially formed as an independent service branch.

Multiple movies have through fictional and historical accounts have highlighted our Air Force including: Twelve O’Clock High, The Tuskegee Airmen, Bat 21, Memphis Belle: A Story of a Flying Fortress (1944, documentary), Memphis Belle (1990, historical fiction), Thud Pilots, The Last Full Measure, and of course the four Iron Eagle movies, never ever forget the Iron Eagle franchise.
