The Oceanside Fire Department’s eight firehouses provide a presence in every neighborhood throughout the 42 square miles of the City of Oceanside. The lives of over 180,000 residents and visitors are protected 24 hours per day, 365 days per year by 115 sworn personnel. An additional staff of nine provides support with the goal of efficiently and effectively serving the community. In addition to pr

oviding emergency response services to the community, there are a number of non-emergency functions performed by the Fire Department. They include fire investigations, plan checks for all new development, fire prevention inspections, and public education, disaster preparedness, and informational programs.

This Memorial Day, Oceanside Fire honors and remembers the brave men and women of the U.S. Armed Forces who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our country.

As we gather with family, friends, and community, we pause to reflect on their courage, service, and sacrifice.

From our Oceanside Fire family to yours, we wish you a safe and meaningful Memorial Day.

Did you know old Station 1 is part of the of Art expansion? This project will allow visitors to experience art inside a historic firehouse, while creating more opportunities for youth education and community engagement.

May is Building Safety Month, and the Oceanside Fire Department is proud to recognize the important role that safe construction plays in protecting our community.

Our Fire Marshal wants to remind residents, business owners, and developers of the importance of using qualified, licensed contractors who understand and build to current code standards. Building and fire codes are more than requirements on paper; they are life safety tools designed to protect families, firefighters, businesses, and neighborhoods.

Each year, the Oceanside Fire Department reviews more than 1,600 building plans and performs more than 2,000 construction inspections to help ensure projects are built safely and in compliance with fire and life safety standards.

Whether you are building a new home, remodeling a business, installing fire protection systems, or making improvements to your property, please choose qualified professionals and make sure the proper permits and inspections are completed.

Safe buildings help create a safer Oceanside.

It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of retired Oceanside Fire Department Firefighter Carlos Buntin, pictured here in the bottom row, second from the left. Pictured with Carlos are Jim Spaulding, Gary Schmitz, Irwin Hedstrom, Mike Kirk, and Richie Lawrence.

We are grateful for his service to the Oceanside community and the legacy he leaves within our fire department family. Our thoughts are with the Buntin family, his friends, and all who served alongside him.

We are proud of our EMTs and Paramedics who serve the Oceanside community every day with professionalism, compassion, and dedication.

Last week, Oceanside Fire was proud to participate in a countywide wildland training exercise at Barona alongside more than 700 firefighters from across San Diego County.

The multi-agency drill helped crews prepare for peak wildfire season by strengthening emergency response coordination, communication, and readiness before the next major fire.

Training together helps ensure we are better prepared to protect our communities when it matters most.

TBT: Captain Bill Betz supervises overhaul operations following a fire at St. Mary’s School. Overhaul is a critical part of the firefighting process, allowing crews to search for hidden fire, protect property, and ensure the scene is safe before leaving.
