The Oceanside Fire Department’s eight firehouses provide a presence in every neighborhood throughout the 42 square miles of the City of Oceanside. The lives of over 180,000 residents and visitors are protected 24 hours per day, 365 days per year by 115 sworn personnel. An additional staff of nine provides support with the goal of efficiently and effectively serving the community. In addition to pr

oviding emergency response services to the community, there are a number of non-emergency functions performed by the Fire Department. We had a great time yesterday with NSDC NAACP at the Juneteenth Celebration! Our team enjoyed connecting with the community, teaching hands-only CPR, and sharing lifesaving skills that can make a difference in an emergency.

Thank you to everyone who stopped by to learn, ask questions, and celebrate with us. We are proud to serve and engage with our community both on and off the emergency scene.

Yesterday marked Fire Chief David Parsons’ official last day with the Oceanside Fire Department.

Chief Parsons, thank you for your 25 years of dedicated service to Oceanside and more than three decades in the fire service. Your leadership, commitment to our community, and unwavering support of our firefighters and staff have left a lasting impact on this organization.

We are grateful for everything you have done for our department and our city. As you begin this next chapter, we wish you happiness, health, and success in all that lies ahead.

Illegal fireworks are a public safety threat. They increase the risk of structure fires, wildland fires, serious injuries, and emergency response delays.

It is unlawful to ignite, discharge, or possess illegal or dangerous fireworks in Oceanside.

Property owners, renters, and hosts can be held responsible. A person who owns, rents, leases, or controls a property may be cited if they knowingly allow illegal fireworks activity on that property.

Fines increase for repeat violations.
Violations may result in administrative penalties of:
$1,000 for a first violation
$2,500 for a second violation within one year
$5,000 for each additional violation within one year
Up to $10,000 per year

The City may recover emergency response costs. Responsible parties may be billed for police, fire, code enforcement, medical response, equipment, administrative time, and damage to City property related to illegal fireworks incidents.

Drones will be used to capture evidence of illegal firework activity. The ordinance allows the City to use drones to document fireworks violations.

May is Building Safety Month, and the Oceanside Fire Department is proud to recognize the important role that safe construction plays in protecting our community.

Our Fire Marshal wants to remind residents, business owners, and developers of the importance of using qualified, licensed contractors who understand and build to current code standards. Building and fire codes are more than requirements on paper; they are life safety tools designed to protect families, firefighters, businesses, and neighborhoods.

Each year, the Oceanside Fire Department reviews more than 1,600 building plans and performs more than 2,000 construction inspections to help ensure projects are built safely and in compliance with fire and life safety standards.

Whether you are building a new home, remodeling a business, installing fire protection systems, or making improvements to your property, please choose qualified professionals and make sure the proper permits and inspections are completed.
