The 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit (15th MEU) is one of seven Marine Expeditionary Units currently in existence in the United States Marine Corps. The Marine Expeditionary Unit is a Marine Air-Ground Task Force with a strength of about 2,400 personnel. The MEU consists of four major parts: a command element, a ground combat element, an aviation combat element, and a logistics combat element. The 15th MEU is based out of Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton, California.

Marines with Task Force Ashland, , return home after a four-month deployment embarked the Whidbey Island-class dock landing ship USS Ashland (L*D 48), at , May 27, 2026. While embarked Ashland, TF-Ashland supported regional security and allied integration through crisis response operations and immediate capabilities alongside partner nations.

Mission Complete, Momentum Continues 🇺🇸🤝

U.S. Marines and Sailors assigned to Marine Rotational Force-Southeast Asia, I Marine Expeditionary Force, concludes its six-month rotation on March 31, 2026. Composited under the 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit, MRF-SEA completed exercises and operations in the Philippines, Brunei, Indonesia and Malaysia. MRF-SEA is a flexible task force that varies in size, capability, and composition, to accomplish different types of missions as a purpose-built unit, maintaining a forward presence and enhancing Marine Corps crisis and contingency response capabilities. MRF-SEA is uniquely organized to support security cooperation and advance mutual security objectives shared with Southeast Asian Allies and partners.

MRF-SEA Marines & Sailors Return From Deployment🫂🇺🇸

Marines and Sailors from the 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit returned April 1 to Camp Pendleton from a six-month deployment as Marine Rotational Force-Southeast Asia.

During the MRF-SEA deployment, the 15th MEU participated in multiple exercises and partnered events spanning the Philippines, Indonesia, Malaysia, Brunei and Thailand, as well as provided disaster relief in the Philippines following two typhoons.

MRF-SEA is a forward-deployed, task-organized unit from I Marine Expeditionary Force that builds partnerships, strengthens interoperability with Southeast Asian Allies and partners, can adapt its size and capabilities to conduct security cooperation, train with regional forces, and respond rapidly to crises or contingencies across the Indo-Pacific.

Task Force Asland, USS Asland arrive in Thailand for Exercise Cobra Gold 2026

Task Force (TF) Ashland, a forward-deployed force of U.S. Marines and Sailors aboard Whidbey Island-class dock landing ship USS Ashland (L*D 48), arrived in the Kingdom of Thailand, Feb. 22, to join approximately 8,000 service members from 30 nations for the 45th iteration of Exercise Cobra Gold, which runs from Feb. 24 to March 6, 2026.

Co-sponsored by the Royal Thai Armed Forces and U.S. Indo-Pacific Command, Cobra Gold is the largest joint military exercise in mainland Asia. It brings together a robust multinational force to enhance interoperability and strengthen relationships in support of a free and open Indo-Pacific. This year, full participating nations include, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, the Republic of Korea, Singapore, Thailand, and the U.S.
