The Oceanside Police Department is deeply saddened by today’s tragic shooting at the Islamic Center of San Diego. As neighboring law enforcement agencies serving the same county and region, we stand alongside our partners in San Diego during this difficult time.

Our thoughts are with the victims, their families, the San Diego community, and all those impacted by this senseless act of violence. We recognize that incidents like this create fear and concern among communities of faith here in Oceanside.

At this time, there are no known credible threats to the City of Oceanside. The Oceanside Police Department remains committed to protecting every member of our community and will continue working closely with our local, state, and federal partners to help ensure the safety and security of all residents.

We also extend our gratitude to the first responders and law enforcement personnel who acted swiftly and courageously during this incident.

While there are no mosques located within Oceanside city limits, incidents targeting places of worship impact faith communities across our region. As neighboring agencies serving the same county, OPD believes it is important to acknowledge these events and reassure our community that the safety of all residents remains a priority.

If you see suspicious activity, please report it immediately.

On 4/13/26, Oceanside Police Department officers responded to a welfare check involving a reported disturbance where a firearm had been brandished.

Through follow-up investigation, detectives identified the suspect, a convicted felon, who was living out of a work van and utilizing a storage unit. A search warrant led to the recovery of multiple fi****ms, high-capacity magazines, thousands of rounds of ammunition, and body armor.

Detectives later located the suspect in the area of Mission Ave, where he was contacted and taken into custody on multiple firearm-related charges.

Eight of our Explorers put their skills to the test this past weekend at the annual Escondido Police Department Cadet Competition and delivered. 🫡

Competing against six agencies from across San Diego and Imperial Counties, they took on realistic scenarios, marksmanship, an obstacle course, and more.

We’re proud to share they earned a win in one of the scenarios, thinking fast, staying sharp, and getting it done right.

They represented OPD with pride, integrity, and heart every step of the way. 👏
