The City of Ocoee was formed as a small agricultural settlement supported by the local citrus and vegetable farming industry. The town was first settled adjacent to Starke Lake, southeast of Lake Apopka, in the mid-1800’s. Following the end of the Civil War, a number of settlers moved into the area including Captain Bluford M. Sims, a native of Tennessee who served in the Confederacy. He had purch

ased a tract of land from Dr. J. D. Starke and established the first citrus nursery in the United States. Sims had a number of other credits and accomplishments to his name including road commissioner, Freemason, and contractor for the first framed court house in Orlando. It is the section of land Sims used for citrus growth which now comprises most of what is considered downtown Ocoee. Sims led a group of early settlers in having the town platted and in 1886 the name was changed to Ocoee. City of Ocoee General Social Media Posting Policy

Our Public Works and Utilities teams presented a fun Hurricane Readiness for Kids activity at the West Oaks Library! 📖🌀🏠

Kids and parents enjoyed reading Hurricane by John Rocco, a captivating story illustrating the power of community. After the story, kids learned the importance of being prepared by creating their own hurricane kits filled with essential supplies and a few fun comfort items to help them stay calm and entertained during severe weather events.

A big thank you to all the families who joined us as we learned valuable preparedness skills together. Being ready for hurricane season can make all the difference!

🛣️ ... all roads lead to Ocoee?

Our city is ideally situated at the heart of all of Central Florida’s major highways and expressways. The Florida Turnpike was extended through our area in 1964, creating a vital transportation link that has connected residents, businesses, and visitors to Ocoee for more than 60 years!

This important link continues to grow with additional lanes and improved access, making travel to and from our city easier than ever. No other route so seamlessly connects our community to Orlando and destinations beyond—truly, all roads lead here!
