What we're reading Wednesday!
On Wednesdays, staff will highlight a book from our collection that they have enjoyed.
This week's pick is: The Correspondent by Virginia Evans
This booke is written entirely as a series of letters, emails, and other documents (an epistolary work). It follows Sybil Van Antwerp, a witty, retired lawyer over a ten-year period. Sybil writes to and receives messages from family, authors, friends, and strangers. As each correspondence unfolds, Sybil's initially sharp and stubborn demeanor exposes her deeply vulnerable personality. The book is deeply emotional, often funny, and provides a vivid look into regret, making amends, and self-forgiveness. The letters give readers enough information to follow a timeline, while cleverly withholding just enough details to keep you hooked until the end.
