What we're reading Wednesday!

On Wednesdays, staff will highlight a book from our collection that they have enjoyed.

This week's pick is: Life: A Love Story by Elizabeth Berg

Who would you write one final letter to at the end of your life? What stories would you share? What memories might be tucked away in the ordinary objects around your home? (Could a rubber band saved in a matchbox and tied with a red ribbon really hold something priceless?)

In this touching novel, readers follow Flo during her final days as she reflects on a life well lived through a heartfelt letter. The story moves between the present and the past, weaving together memories, friendships, and a few unexpected twists along the way.

💜 A beautiful and thoughtful read about community, love, and the significance of both the little moments and the life-changing ones.

This week's pick is: Sunrise on the Reaping by Suzanne Collins

16-year-old Haymitch Abernathy is simply trying to survive the day. It is the 50th Hunger Games and instead of the usual 24 children, 48 tributes are forced to travel to the Capitol to fight in a massive televised battle to the death. He avoids thinking about his slim odds, caring only about completing the ceremony so he can return to his family and the girl he loves. Unfortunately for Haymitch, the odds are not in his favor. As a punishment, he is illegally designated to be the fourth tribute for District 12. Upon arriving in the Capitol, Haymitch quickly realizes that the odds are fundamentally stacked against him and that he has been explicitly set up to fail by the Gamemakers. Surrounded by better-trained Career tributes and a lethal arena, his survival seems impossible. Sunrise on the Reaping reveals the person Haymitch was before The Hunger Games and how they changed him.
