April is Autism Awareness Month

The Odessa Police Department is committed to raising awareness for autism. This lifelong disability can be complex and appears during early childhood. It can impact a person’s social skills, communication, relationships and self-regulation. An estimated 1 out of every 54 children in the United States is diagnosed with some form of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).

The Odessa Police Department is proud to join several law enforcement agencies nationwide in promoting Autism Awareness. For the month of April, uniformed OPD officers may replace the standard OPD shoulder patch with the OPD Autism Awareness Patch as a reminder of our commitment to raising awareness for autism.

A special thanks to Patricia Limon, who lives in San Antonio and is married to San Antonio Police Department Sergeant Richard Limon Jr. OPD would like to thank Patricia Limon for designing and donating all of the patches to the Odessa Police Department.
