Ground-Based WALS Mosquito Control Treatments 🚛 today 10/13/26
crews will also be conducting ground-based Wide Area Larvicide Spray (WALS) treatments, weather permitted.

📍The areas shaded below are areas where our crews are currently planned to operate today.

WALS is a targeted mosquito control treatment used to reduce immature mosquitoes before they become biting adults. These applications specifically target potential disease-vector mosquito species, including Aedes aegypti, which can transmit dengue and other mosquito-borne diseases.

💧WHAT YOU MAY SEE
If you see one of our WALS trucks in your neighborhood, you may notice a large plume of liquid droplets being directed upward from the truck into the air.
This is a normal part of the WALS application. The liquid is designed to disperse over the treatment area and reach small, hard-to-access water-holding habitats where mosquito larvae may be developing in neighborhoods.

🦟SO, WHAT ARE WE TREATING?
Aedes aegypti is a particularly challenging mosquito because it often lays its eggs in small containers and other cryptic habitats around homes and businesses.
Our WALS equipment helps us reach areas such as:
💧 Rain gutters
🪣 Buckets & containers
🪴 Flower pots & plant saucers
🛞 Tires & other discarded items
🏠 Areas around homes & structures
🌿 Other small, water-holding habitats where mosquito larvae may develop

🌎 WHY ARE WE USING THIS TREATMENT?
Mosquito-borne disease is a regional public health concern, and mosquitoes don't recognize county lines. With increased dengue activity in the greater Tampa Bay area, PCMCD is proactively increasing surveillance and control efforts targeting
Aedes aegypti and other potential disease-vector species.

☀️ FINALLY, THE SUN IS OUT! Now’s the time to check your yard! 🌧️

Dump and drain any standing water that collected during all the rain. Buckets, flowerpots, birdbaths and ANY other water-holding containers can become mosquito production sites.

🦟 Remember to wear US EPA-registered insect repellent and wear long sleeves and pants to help protect yourself from mosquito bites.

🛞 Got old tires? Don’t let them become a mosquito problem!

Tires left outside can collect rainwater and become prime mosquito production sites, especially for the Aedes aegypti mosquito, which can spread dengue.

🦟 Dump the water. Dispose of the tires. Fight the Bite!

Have old tires you need to get rid of? Now’s your chance… for free! Pasco County Solid Waste is hosting a free tire disposal drop off event this Saturday to help prevent dengue fever. Get rid of some old tires and protect Pasco County from mosquito-borne illness.

Free Tire Drop Off:
Saturday, October 10, 2026
John S. Burks Memorial Park, 13220 Gene Nelson Blvd, Dade City
8 a.m. - 3 p.m.

Residents can bring up to four, old tires – no more than 36 inches in diameter.

Tires can collect water and quickly become breeding grounds for mosquitoes.

Tires must be separated from other trash or waste, but rims can stay attached.

Solid Waste continues to accept tires for free until November 1, 2026, at three locations: mypas.co/TrashInfo
