Our Ector County ISD Trustees held a special meeting tonight to interview candidates for Position 1 on the board that is currently vacant.

After the interviews, the board voted to appoint Rosalita Veronica Garcia to Position 1 Trustee. She is a former ECISD teacher with more than 25 years of education experience.

One of our teachers just did a hare-raising makeover for one of Odessa College's Jackrabbits 🎨

Ector College Prep Middle School art teacher Yennifer Cano Rojas recently brought her creativity into the community, transforming one of Odessa College’s longtime jackrabbits into Many Pieces: One Spirit.

Using hundreds of individual mosaic pieces, Yennifer created a design inspired by the many people who come together to make a community.

Pretty cool to see what our teachers are creating outside the classroom. Great job, Ms. Rojas!

They heard the monthly Bond 2023 update that showed quite a bit of progress has been made through the summer, they retroactively approved new principals for Burnet Elementary and Bonham Middle School, and they received more good academic news as they discussed their board goals and the key indicators of success we track. Celebrating Excellence at Tonight’s ECISD Board Meeting!

The evening began with Judah Hufty and Julian Torres from Hays STEAM Academy leading the Pledges of Allegiance, followed by the invocation from Rachel Brady of Odessa Bible Church.

We recognized 10 State VASE qualifiers who earned the highest rating for their artwork.

ECISD was also named a District of Distinction by the Texas Art Education Association for the 6th consecutive year, placing our Visual Arts program among the top 10% in Texas.

And for the 12th year in a row, ECISD earned the national Best Communities for Music Education recognition from The NAMM Foundation.

This is Estela Vejil, ECISD’s longest continuously serving employee, who has dedicated an incredible 44 years to serving our students, staff and community. ❤️

Today, we’re proud to recognize Estela, who began her journey with the district in 1982. Over the years, she has worn many hats across ECISD, serving the district in several different roles. Today, she continues that legacy as ECISD’s Risk Benefits Manager.

For more than four decades, Estela has watched ECISD grow and change- from the days of typewriters and carbon paper to the technology we use today.

Through all those years, one thing hasn’t changed: her love for ECISD. When asked what has kept her here, Estela said simply, “It’s a good place to work,” adding that ECISD has always felt like home.

To celebrate her incredible 44 years of service, ECISD leadership surprised Estela with some well-deserved relaxation- a special treatment at Woodhouse Spa and a weekend stay at the Odessa Marriott Hotel! 💆‍♀️✨
