We are excited to announce the reopening of Jurassic Jungle Sprayground beginning at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday June 4, 2026.

Jurassic Jungle Sprayground's operating hours will be 1:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. daily through August 2.

We look forward to hosting you this season.

Game On at McKinney Park

Congratulations to the winning pickleball team, Mama Woods and Baby D***s. McKinney Park was filled with competition and community spirit today as 16 teams took part in a pickleball tournament hosted by the Parks and Recreation Department.

Players competed throughout the day in a series of matches, showcasing their skills while enjoying one of the country's fastest-growing sports.

“I think it’s important for the city because it brings the community together and showcases our new courts,” said Daniel Gutierrez, City of Odessa Parks & Recreation Superintendent. “It gives everyone a chance to come out and enjoy a beautiful day at the park.”

Fun Fact: Pickleball combines elements of tennis and ping-pong. This unique mix creates a fast-paced game that is fun for both beginners and experienced players.

Take a look at those pajama pants in the first picture. People were clearly excited for last week’s Friday Night Flicks.

The Parks and Recreation Department hosted a showing of Lilo & Stitch at Lawndale Park, along with yard games and other family-friendly activities.

“We had a really great turnout again. I saw a lot of people dress up to the theme of Lilo & Stitch,” Odessa Recreation Superintendent Daniel Gutierrez said. “The weather also turned out to be perfect. It’s a great way to kick off the season.”

Families and friends arrived early to hang out, play co****le, enjoy the jumper, and claim the perfect spot with lawn chairs and blankets before the movie started at sunset.

So far, the 2026 Friday Night Flicks lineup is off to a strong start and there’s plenty more fun planned in the coming months.

“For us in the department, it gives us something to build off of,” Gutierrez said about the event’s early success this year. “Lilo & Stitch was a classic choice. That resonated with both the older crowd and the kids.”

The next Friday Night Flicks event is set for June 26 at Lions Club Park, 4341 Esmond Drive. Attendees are encouraged to arrive around 8 p.m. to enjoy yard games before a sunset showing of A Minecraft Movie.

This weekend, the City of Odessa's pools and spraygrounds will kick off another summer season.

Odessa residents are encouraged to visit Floyd Gwin Pool, Woodson Family Aquatic Center, Sherwood Family Aquatic Center, McKinney Park Sprayground, and Jurassic Jungle Sprayground starting this Saturday.

Floyd Gwin Pool is one of the aquatic facilities that has been enjoyed for generations, and remains a local favorite.

“It’s a place for the community to come together and have a good place to cool down,” said Odessa Parks Superintendent Rocky Holtzclaw. “We got it up and running for the season and we're ready for everyone to come out and enjoy it.”

Floyd Gwin Pool is more than a destination for Odessa residents. It's where summer traditions begin and lifelong memories are developed.

“It’s a keepsake,” said Holtzclaw. “This pool has been here a really long time. There are a lot of people that have a fondness for it.”

Jurassic Jungle Sprayground on the campus of The University of Texas Permian Basin will be closed temporarily while maintenance is conducted.

Spring Volleyball League

Another amazing spring volleyball season in the books!

With 220 players, 12 competitive teams, and 9 recreational teams, our courts were full of energy, teamwork, and community spirit all season long.

Thank you to everyone who played, cheered, and made this season such a success. Whether you were competing or just having fun, you helped make this league something special. We’ll see you next season!
