We are extremely excited to have these three great candidates on the ballot November 3rd!

As the trustee it would be my responsibility to steer our township in the best direction possible. Good stewardship of our tax dollars, community outreach, & positive development of our community.

But no single person has all the answers. It takes a variety of experience, opinions, & perspectives to make the best choices. With that in mind, I'd like to introduce everyone to the members of our community that have stepped up to run alongside me in this campaign.

Bruce Hatton spent decades of his career working as an administrator for multiple school systems, eventually becoming the superintendent of Washington Community Schools. His experience in our education system & his perspective on the community in that system is invaluable.

Anita Ash has spent her entire career working & serving through government systems like social services, local boards, budgeting, & fiscal oversight. This experience has given her endless knowledge on such topics, making her advice & expertise on said subjects a perfect fit for this role.

Gary Arthur is a lifelong resident of our community & local farmer. His involvement in local happenings shows his passion for our community, & his experience as a homegrown farmer here brings the kind of perspective on hard work & dedication to our precious land few can provide.

Service. Experience. Dedication.

These are the traits we need to bring to our community. The traits that will allow us to rise to the task of our ever changing local landscape.

I want to bring big change & positive movement to our township. Having advisors like these is exactly what can make those changes happen!

We are deeply disappointed to share this news with voters across Senate District 39.

Because of a procedural filing error by the Indiana Democratic Party, Mayor Joe Yochum will not appear on the November ballot as the Democratic candidate for Indiana State Senate District 39.

Joe stepped forward because he believes the people of southwest Indiana deserve a strong voice at the Statehouse. Over the past several weeks, he has traveled across this district, listened to voters, built relationships, and shown exactly the kind of thoughtful, community-centered leadership we were proud to support.

But our disappointment today goes beyond one candidate or one political party.

Voters deserve a choice.

For the next four years, the people of Senate District 39 will have no choice on their ballot for who represents them in the Indiana State Senate. In a healthy democracy, competitive elections matter. Accountability matters. And voters—not procedural mistakes—should determine who represents their communities.

We are grateful to Joe for stepping up to serve, and we know his commitment to southwest Indiana will continue through his work as Mayor of Vincennes and beyond.

To our members, volunteers, candidates, and voters: stay engaged. There is still important work ahead of us this fall, and there are still races up and down the ballot where your voice and your vote matter.

We share Joe’s disappointment, and we remain committed to building a stronger Democratic Party and ensuring the people of southwest Indiana have candidates willing to show up, listen, and serve.

OFFICIAL STATEMENT OF THE KNOX COUNTY INDIANA DEMOCRATIC PARTY:

We are deeply disappointed to share this news with voters across Senate District 39, including constituents in Daviess, Greene, Knox, Martin, Owen, and Sullivan counties.

Because of a procedural filing error by the Indiana Democratic Party—specifically by the chair of the nominating caucus—Vincennes Mayor Joe Yochum will not appear on the November ballot as the Democratic candidate for Indiana State Senate District 39.

Joe stepped forward because he believes the people of Southwest Indiana deserve a strong voice at the Statehouse. Over the past several weeks, he has traveled across all six counties, listened to voters, built relationships, and shown exactly the kind of thoughtful, community-centered leadership we are proud to support.

But our disappointment today goes beyond one candidate or one political party.

Bottom line: Voters deserve a choice.

And now, the people of Senate District 39 will have no choice on their ballot for who represents them in the Indiana State Senate. In a healthy democracy, competitive elections matter. But in this instance, the voice of many voters was erased by one person who failed to complete their responsibility.

We are eternally grateful to Joe for stepping up to serve. He did so because he has seen firsthand how the actions of the Republican supermajority in the statehouse are putting a financial crunch on cities and towns, schools and hospitals, and by extension, all Hoosiers. Voters throughout the district were coming to know what we in Vincennes and Knox County have known for years—that Joe Yochum is a strong yet compassionate leader who builds coalitions and gets things done.

Thank you Washington City Council!

Washington City Council officially passed a two-year moratorium on data center development tonight.

Thank you to our City Council members for hearing the concerns of residents, asking questions, and putting the people you represent first.

This is what good government should look like.

A moratorium isn’t about saying “never.” It’s about saying not until we have the answers. It gives our community time to fully understand the impact these projects could have on our utilities, water, infrastructure, neighborhoods, and taxpayers…and to make sure the right protections are in place before decisions are made that could affect Washington for generations.

And to every resident who showed up, spoke up, asked questions, sent emails, made phone calls, or simply refused to accept “don’t worry about it” as an answer: this is what happens when people get involved.

Your voice matters. Tonight proved it. 💙

We had a great time yesterday at the Old Settlers Parade in Odon! It was wonderful seeing so many friends, neighbors, and families celebrating one of our favorite small-town traditions.
